Eating meat? Think again. Gillian Anderson stars in a new, super creepy PETA ad by Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller that will have meat-lovers giving their dietary decisions a second thought.
In the dimly lit spot, the X-Files star sits at a long dining table in an exquisite evening gown with a plunging neckline.
Her lines are sparse, as are the details of the ad.
“Eating meat, it’s a matter of taste,” she intones with a deadpan expression on her face after the camera pans across the wooden table, laden with food and a long slab of meat.
The scene then slowly reveals the length of the actress’ body for a chilling plot twist you have to see to believe.
Fuller directed the 30-second spot, and previously told Entertainment Weekly that his work on the now-canceled Hannibal was a major factor in his decision to turn pescatarian.
“Writing Hannibal made me realize that human beings and other animals have more similarities than differences,” he said. “It had a direct impact on how I view meat and what I put in my body. Eating another sentient being is no different than eating another human being, in my mind. The trauma of Hannibal cuts both ways.”
Anderson, 47, has been similarly vocal about her support for PETA and her vegetarianism.
