Don't expect to see Ian Somerhalder lining up at midnight to score some of this season's best shopping deals.

VIDEO: Remember this Vampire Diaries scene?

The 32-year-old Vampire Diaries star wished his Twitter followers a "happy Thanksgiving" late Wednesday night, though he also vented his frustration with what's become of the holiday.

"What I'm not grateful for is the midnight black Friday crap," he wrote. "Thousands of families are missing out on family time."

The actor -- currently dating his costar Nina Dobrev -- added that "stores should be ashamed."

"Family is all we have, the foundation of our country and our world," he explained. "Just my two cents. It may not matter, but I said it."

i completely agree with Ian thanksgiving is about spending it with your family not going to the store and go shopping there are 365 days of the year to shop but there is only 1 thanksgiving a year stay home and away from the drama family is everything!

Ian has EVERY RIGHT to express his views on the disaster that Black Friday has become. People getting pepper sprayed, beaten to a bloody pulp by store security, shot and killed by parking lot muggers. Seriously, what's next?

Hey Jennifer! Um...did we ask for your two cents? No. If you didn't want Ian's two cents, don't follow his twitter or read articles about him either. And how can you argue with his logic? My children and I are so fed up with the commercialism of what is supposed to be a religious holiday, and at the very least, a holiday about family time, that we are skipping the whole gift giving thing and going for family time spent making music and memories. God forbid anybody should remind some folks what the holidays are really about!

Jennifer don't be a B =) there are ALWAYS sales sorry if you don't pay attention and you think the only good sales come on black friday! Time with family is priceless especially if they are coming from out of town! So grateful for all the blessings God has given to me and my family!

Amen! Competition shopping, people get angry, had a few died because of the crowns. This young man has the right attitude!

Good for him! I don't shop on Black Friday, I'm spending time with my kids running a book swap at their library, with them, and for them. Shopping and consumerism is out of control in this country. Families are being taken for granted, and pushed to too low a priority!

okay, we don't make as much as money Ian so we need our deals and sales.... duh!

I agree completely, it's bad enough Christmas is out of control but also Thanksgiving?????It's truly a shame.

I agree. Not every store opens at midnight, there are some opening here at 4 pm, 9 pm and 10 pm. That can take away from families because the employees have to get to the stores a few hours before they open to set up. I realize they can celebrate their dinner early, but the whole day should be reserved for family. This day was meant to give thanks for the blessings in your life.

OH MY GOSH I LOVE HIM!! I'm so happy he's dating Nina Dobrev. I'm fans of both. But yeah I like this. He's a good guy it seems.

Ian is so soft-hearted. :) I have never shopped at a store on Black Friday, I just shop on the internet. Why would you want to do that to yourself?

  • November 24, 2011 - 10:39am Tina Dalman

Let's be realistic here how many families are celebrating around midnight?? If stores want to avoid people getting hurt then more power to them.
