The incident occurred at the apartment of Simpson's estranged wife, and involved her current boyfriend. Simpson reportedly barged into the home and stabbed the victim, the boyfriend, repeatedly in the face.
Torrey Hunt, a neighbor, said that the couple ran to his home for help around 3 a.m. "He said someone knocked on the door, he thought he was knocking on the door for somebody, and he started getting stabbed up," Hunt told the news outlet. "I open the door and see blood everywhere. He was stabbed in his chin and his chest, he had puncture wounds in his chest and his arms and stuff."
Detective Adam DeBoer told WWMT that the wife "locked herself in the bathroom until he left." Added DeBoer: "It appears to be an ongoing feud over a woman."
The victim received dozens of stitches at the hospital and was released.
According to WWMT, Simpson has a history of domestic violence and was currently on probation. Along with a string of arrests in the past, Simpson was most recently jailed for assaulting his wife on Super Bowl Sunday back in February. He is in custody in Paw Paw, Michigan, and expected to be charged Wednesday, Aug. 20, with attempted murder and first degree home invasion.
His half-sister Hudson, meanwhile, has made no statement regarding Simpson's arrest, though the Oscar and Grammy winner, 32, was announced Monday, as the latest performance addition to Fashion Rocks, a live music special to air on CBS next month. (The two are related through their dad, Samuel Simpson.)
In 2008, Hudson's mother, brother, and nephew were murdered by William Balfour, the former husband of her sister Julia. Several years later, in July 2012, Balfour was sentenced to three life sentences without parole.
