Jeremy Renner’s Wife Files for Divorce After 10 Months of Marriage

Jeremy Renner
Jeremy Renner's wife, Sonni Pacheco, has filed for divorce just 10 months after they wed

Must have been the 10-month itch?

After secretly tying the knot earlier this year, it sounds like Jeremy Renner and Sonni Pacheco will not have the most peaceful breakup. The Canadian model has filed for divorce from the 43-year-old Avengers star and it doesn't sound like it's amicable.

Court papers obtained by E! show that Pacheco has demanded the Oscar-nominated actor "immediately return [her] stolen passport, birth certificate, social security card." She cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split, but also requested their prenuptial agreement should be voided because it's based on "fraud."

Renner and Pacheco got married on Jan. 13, 2014, and the date of separation is listed as Nov. 29, 2014. They have one daughter, Ava Berlin, who will turn 2 in March. Sonni has asked for joint legal custody of their daughter but wishes to be granted physical custody. She is also seeking spousal support, use of their Range Rover, and for Renner to pay her moving expenses and rent.

Jeremy and Sonni's relationship was mysterious right from the start. At the 2013 Golden Globe Awards, Us Weekly overheard the actor telling Eva Longoria he was going to be a dad. The magazine reported that the expectant ex-girlfriend he briefly dated was living in his L.A. home. Sonni Pacheco was later identified as the mother-to-be.

Around the same time, Jeremy emphatically denied rumors that he was gay, telling The Hollywood Reporter, "I want my personal life to be personal, and it's not f–king true."

The actor then kept his marriage a secret for months, but during an interview with Capitol File in September, he let the news slip.

"I have tried to protect my family's privacy, my wife's privacy. I don't need her to get hammered with my life. Privacy issues are important because I want her to go about her day without being bothered," Renner said. The interviewer then asked if by "wife" that meant he was married. Renner replied, "Yes."

A rep for Renner has yet to comment on the divorce news; however, a source tells E! News it was not a surprise.

"This has been on the cards for a while. They are just not compatible," a source alleged. "This is going to get ugly. His main priority is the baby and he will fight for full custody if it comes to that. All he cares about is being a dad. He is an amazing father. He is worried she is going to go back to Canada and take the baby."

According to E!'s insider, Renner regretted getting hitched in the first place, but did it for his daughter.

"Jeremy wanted out of the marriage almost as soon as he got into it. He wanted to make sure Ava had a solid family unit and tried to make it work," the source continued. "It's really sad because Jeremy loves Ava so much and hates that she will live her life with her parents split up."

Perhaps the writing was always on the wall. In November 2013, Jeremy told Elle he may not be into marriage.

"It's not necessarily something I often think about. It's a whole other conversation," he said. "Don't forget how the institution of marriage came about."
