You might check her Snapchat daily, but that doesn’t mean you really know Kylie Jenner! The youngest Kardashian-Jenner sister talked to Adweek about building her brand, what she doesn’t share on Instagram and more.
“You can’t really tell who a person is from, like, an eight-second Snapchat video or an Instagram. I only post on Instagram or Snapchat what I want people to see, you know?” the 18-year-old said of her perfectly curated social media accounts, which boast 57.4 million followers. “But there’s a whole other side to me that people don’t know."
Jenner is careful not to share too much about her personal relationships, which might be why it’s rare to hear her talking about boyfriend Tyga. “There’s a big part of my life that I don’t share online, and I feel like people think that just because I have a reality TV show and I’m on Snapchat for probably 10 minutes altogether throughout the day, that they know my life,” she told Adweek. "But I feel like everybody — every celebrity, at least — keeps a big part of their life super private. Like, I don’t show a lot of my relationships or my ups and downs. I’d never have a fight with someone [on Instagram].” Although Jenner doesn’t take fights to social media, her sisters and brother are not above public squabbles.
The Kylie Lip Kit creator revealed how keeping up her flawless appearance to meet fans’ expectations can be tiresome. “I feel like people want to see me have a cool hair color and dress a certain way and have pretty makeup and heels … That’s always been me, since day one, but it’s also exhausting for everyday life.”
She understands that being a “young socialite on the Internet,” comes with a lot of negativity, often over her appearance, but she doesn’t let it get to her. Instead, she’s focusing all her energy on expanding her lip kit and cosmetics line. “I want people who just feel like buying a kit to be able to go online and buy it,” she said of her instantly sold-out line. “I want that so bad. But right now, it doesn’t seem possible.”
The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star even hopes that makeup will be her sole focus in 5 to 10 years. “Hopefully, I have a family and I’m just running my business and my cosmetics line,” Jenner said.
