Everything’s A-OK! Richard Simmons is speaking out after his hospitalization for dehydration over the weekend. The 67-year-old fitness guru released a statement to Us Weekly on Sunday, June 5, to assure fans that he’s feeling better.
“Thank you to everyone who has reached out with love and concern after hearing I was in the hospital. I was dehydrated and needed some fluids and now I am feeling great!” Simmons tells Us. “Summer is here — drink plenty of liquids. Big hugs and kisses for caring.”
As Us Weekly previously reported, the Sweatin’ to the Oldies star was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles late Friday night after he was reportedly exhibiting “bizarre” behavior.
According to TMZ, Simmons’ longtime friend and housekeeper called 911 after the star “became incoherent.”
He was briefly evaluated at the hospital and later released. “He’s just fine,” the workout expert’s rep told Us earlier on Sunday.
Earlier this year, Simmons made headlines when his close friend told the New York Daily News that he was concerned that the weight-loss specialist was being held hostage by his housekeeper after he was out of the public eye for about two years.
The fitness activist later broke his silence, explaining that he just wanted to stay out of the spotlight.
“No one should be worried about me,” he explained in a phone interview with Entertainment Tonight on March 13. “The people that surround me are wonderful people who take great care of me.”
