Ryan Gosling to the rescue! The actor made Us swoon (as usual) while saving a puppy this past weekend in Palm Springs, California, where he and Eva Mendes celebrated her birthday.

The Big Short actor, 35, was photographed pulling over on the side of a highway after he spotted a four-legged cutie in the middle of a busy road. Gosling quickly got out of his car and dashed over to rescue the pooch — scooping it up from harm’s way and returning the little guy (or lady!) to its owner.

Mendes feted her 42nd birthday on March 5. In a December interview with Hello!, Gosling gushed about fatherhood with their now 17-month-old daughter, Esmeralda. “[It’s] not rocket science,” he said — but he's especially lucky to have Mendes by his side, the hunk added.

“I know that I’m with the person I’m supposed to be with,” he said of his love of five years. “She’s Eva Mendes. There’s nothing else I’m looking for.”

The Notebook star is coming off a busy awards season after hitting the 2016 Golden Globes, the Oscars and other awards shows with his Big Short costars Christian Bale, Steve Carell and others.
