Happy — and healthy! Sean Connery was all smiles while stepping out in New York on Thursday, Sept. 5, following false rumors that he's suffering from Alzheimer's. The 83-year-old actor attended the men's singles quarterfinal match between Andy Murray of Great Britain and Stanislas Wawrinka of Switzerland at the 2013 US Open. (Connery's fellow Scotsman, Murray, lost 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 to Wawrinka.)
Wearing a bright orange dress shirt, blue blazer and khaki dress pants, Connery appeared to be in good health as he sat in the stands and watched the match.
Rumors spread last week that the James Bond actor was battling memory problems following an interview his longtime friend, Michael Caine, gave to German newspaper Bild. Caine, 80, however, denied the reports to the U.K.'s Daily Record. "It's completely preposterous, bulls–t," the Batman star said. "This stuff about Alzheimer's is just nonsense." He added, "I can only assume that someone has twisted my words or got the wrong end of the stick."
Caine also set the record straight with the Daily Record, assuring the paper that the Scotsman is fine. "I haven't seen Sean for a couple of years, but my wife and I spoke to him on the phone on his birthday this week and he was very well," he said. "I know Sean was quite ill a year or so ago," Caine added. "But he is much better now and it was never anything to do with his mental state."
