Sharon Osbourne, you saucy storyteller, you! The Talk cohost shared a very personal secret about her dating past with her talk show cohorts and viewers on Monday, Sept. 9. Before she was Mrs. Ozzy Osbourne, before Kelly and Jack and Aimee -- and granddaughter Pearl -- the media personality was a 25-year-old "not very dateable" Brit who had just arrived in Los Angeles circa 1978.
"Remember, at 25, I had met my husband but we weren't together. We were just friends," she said as a disclaimer to her story. "So, I'm here, [and] I didn't have a boyfriend -- I never did date a lot at that time anyway because I was not very dateable."
One day, Osbourne recalled, a friend of hers insisted that she head to the club where she worked because it was "full of men." Once there, Osbourne said she spotted a guy whom she described to her friend as "very nice, very funny."
Her pal happened to have the lucky chap's phone number on her and the pair proceeded to prank call him.
"He liked my voice and I kept calling. I said I had the wrong number but I kept talking with my English accent," she said, adding that one thing led to another and "he actually came to my house and met me and we had a little fling."
Unfortunately for the 60-year-old talk show host, however, her would-be lover seemed to already have his eyes on someone else, and a few months later, he introduced her to the "real love of his life."
"The fling was more of a fling for me and not fling enough for him because a couple of months later he brought around the real love of his life for me to meet, and she was lovely and they took me to Fatburger and showed me around town," she said.
As the audience aww-ed, Osbourne revealed that the identity of her brief fling was none other than late-night talk show host Jay Leno, who married now-wife Mavis Nicholson in 1980. Osbourne wed Black Sabbath rocker Ozzy, 64, in 1982.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, I don't know if Sharon is getting the standing ovation or if Jay Leno is getting the standing ovation," cohost Julie Chen cried as the audience erupted in cheers and gasps. Chen then unabashedly asked Osbourne if that meant that the two talk show hosts had slept together.
"It was so long ago I can't remember!" Osbourne said with a laugh. "One cannot remember that long ago."
