Sheila MacRae, The Honeymooners Actress, Dies at the Age of 92
Sheila MacRae has died at the age of 92, the Associated Press reports. The Broadway vet died at her home in Englewood, N.J. on Thursday, March. 6.
"She had a great life, my mom, she really did. She was quite a broad," her daughter, actress Heather MacRae, told AP. "Fascinating, almost like an Autie Mame character."
The film and TV actress' death came suddenly, and was the result of old age, Heather continued. She suffered from dementia, but was healthy otherwise.
MacRae is best-known for starring with Jackie Gleason in The Honeymooners. In the 1950s version, actress Audrey Meadows starred with Gleason as partners Ralph and Alice. MacRae replaced Meadows in the comedy's later version from 1966-1970 on The Jackie Gleason Show.
The London native was married to Oklahoma! and Carousel actor Gordon MacRae for 26 years, and divorced in 1967. They have four children together. She later married Ronald Wayne, but the pair divorced after two years of marriage in 1969.
MacRae is survived by her children Heather and William "Gar" MacRae, six grandchildren, and two great-children. Her daughter Meredith died in 2000 and her son Robert in 2010.
