Tori and Dean forever. On the night of their ninth wedding anniversary, Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott told Us Weekly and other reporters on Thursday, May 7, that their bond is stronger than ever following his 2013 affair.
"We're doing great," Spelling, 42, told Us at WE tv's Ian Ziering’s "Pet Project" event to raise awareness for Canine Companions for Independence in L.A. "Really strong, committed, and grateful."
Indeed, Spelling marked their special day on Thursday with a sentimental PDA pic and message with her husband posted to Instagram. "9 years ago I married the love of my life…" she wrote alongside a kissing pic. "#truelove #Fiji #TogetherWeMade4Blessings #MistakesAreMomentsIfWeDontLetThemDefineUs #Forgiveness #Soulmate #TrulyMadlyDeeply #Forever."
McDermott told Us later that evening that he thought the line — "Mistakes are just moments if you don't let them define you" — was "brilliant." Us broke the news in December 2013 that McDermott cheated on his wife with a woman named Emily Goodhand while shooting his series in Canada.
"Unfortunately, you go through… upsets in your life," he told Us. "And you learn from them and you grow from them and we've certainly done that. We've certainly grown from them and we've gotten closer and stronger."
The former Chopped Canada host also discussed his recent comments about shying away from reality television after the fallout from his affair was documented on the Lifetime series True Tori.
"It was great at the time," he said of the docu-series, which aired last summer. "It really helped us address some things that really needed to be addressed but it's too much. It's too much of our personal life on television and I just, I don't think audiences are ready for that kind of reality TV, really raw. It was great, it was great television for what it was and it helped a lot of people and it certainly helped us but that chapter in our life is over."
While reality TV is in the rearview mirror, Spelling said she and McDermott are still collaborating on upcoming projects. "What do we love to do together? Oh my gosh, everything!" she exclaimed, while her husband agreed. "Our lives work best when we're together all the time. Play, work, everything. We inspire each other. Obviously we create magic together with beautiful babies [Liam, Stella, Hattie, and Finn] but I think in the work space, too… Yeah, he's my best friend. He's truly my partner in every aspect of my life."
The one thing that they've learned about themselves through their struggle? "That true love really does conquer all," Spelling told Us. "It does. It wins out you know. People can say whatever they want but you know in the end love wins."
