Zooey Deschanel hasn’t been livin’ it up since splitting with Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard, her husband of two years, in November 2011.

“Honestly, I’m just going through a divorce, so I don’t really think [dating] is something I want to get into now,” the 32-year-old New Girl star tells the May issue of Marie Claire. “I don’t have time to date. I literally don’t have time.”

Zooey, who became an aunt for the first time when her actress sister Emily Deschanel gave birth in September 2011, doesn’t envision children in her future, either.

“That’s never been my focus. My sister was always very motherly, babysitting and stuff. I like kids, and I like being around kids, but it was never an ambition — something, like, I need,” Zooey says. “I like working. That’s what I like doing. I like to work.”

Her hard work has certainly paid off. New Girl is a hit with viewers and critics, and Zooey earned her first Golden Globe nomination for the role of Jess in 2012.

“It’s harder to do normal things,” the actress says of her increased visibility. “I think that if you haven’t been to the grocery store in a really long time, it’s really easy to get very out of touch.”

For Zooey, it’s important to remember where she came from. “I still have in me the same awareness when I was 12 and chubby and a girl was spitting in my face. I’m the same person,” she tells Marie Claire. “Certainly you change, and you change perspective, you have other experiences. But isn’t it funny? I can still remember when I was treated differently from the way I’m treated now.”
