It doesn't get more meta than this! Jeremy Scott, the famous designer behind high-fashion label Moschino — which presented a "Barbie" collection for spring 2015 — is now designing clothes for Barbies, and then putting pictures of those Barbies on clothes for people. Stay with Us.
When Paris Hilton wore Moschino's crop-top sweater and skirt "Barbie" ensemble last October, we truly thought the fashion label had reached peek Barbie, but now we realize that was just the tip of the trend-setting toy's iceberg.
This new Barbie collection was created for the dolls — which are limited edition collectables, naturally — and there's an accompanying line of eight life-size ready-to-wear pieces for women available exclusively on Net-a-porter.com on Nov. 9.
This new collaboration comes easily to the celeb-favorite fashion house. "As one of moschino's favorite muses, Creative Director Jeremy Scott couldn't wait to bring all of the brand's signature features to Barbie, dressing her in Moschino's pieces; a slogan T-shirt, logo trimmed mesh knitwear, and a quilted leather bomber jacket with a matching pencil skirt," the label announced in a statement on Oct. 30. "The ready-to-wear capsule consists of life-sized versions of some of the same pieces, with the addition of two printed Barbie T-shirts [of the dolls themselves]."
So why is this all happening? Scott simply didn't want the dolls to get jealous. "I wanted to bring all of the Moschino elements to Barbie, as I had done the reverse by bringing all of the Barbie elements to Moschino for the spring 2015 collection," the designer told Women's Wear Daily. "The thing I love most about Barbie is that she… has worn every style and design imaginable and at the same time she's had every possible profession you can dream of."
