Aubrey O'Day Defends Dyeing Her Dog

Monday – September 07, 2009 – 2:43pm

Doggone it, there's nothing wrong with dyeing a dog, according to Aubrey O'Day.

The former Danity Kane singer, 25, has been criticized on some websites for constantly dyeing her 1-year-old teacup Maltese Ginger.

"She likes to have looks," O'Day tells Usmagazine.com. "It actually seems like such a taboo weird thing nowadays, but if you research online, you will see a whole underworld of dogs who are dyed."

O'Day — who is working on a natural dog dye — tells Us she makes sure her vet approves any of the dyes she uses.

She changes her dog's appearance "for different occasions," she says. She recently dyed her dog green because, O'Day says, she "loves the [Boston] Celtics."

She says she normally dyes Ginger while she's asleep because it's "hassle-free; she doesn’t even know [it's happening]."

"I do it like anyone would color hair," O'Day says. "She sits on my lap, and I have a brush, and I paint it on and use foils."

Ginger "loves attention and because she's colored and has different outfits, she gets so much of it," O'Day tells Us. "She prefers it."

Ummm yeah like the dog knows the difference. Poor doggie. That's animal cruelty I'm sorry. It's not like the dog stood up and said "dye my fur!"

I don't see what the big deal is. She wanted to dye her dogs hair, she checked to make sure it was safe and it was. Trying to figure out why people are upset about this.

That dog looks sooo cute! My dog is black, so maybe I can dye her ears bright pink.

Ok, I'm not saying Aubrey isn't stupid. But come on, she is just dyeing the dogs hair. Who cares? At least the dog is getting love and attention. People dye their hair all the time, as long as it is safe who gives a crap? Can we pay attention to more important things?

The more I hear about her, the more I just can't stand her. It's one thing to make yourself look like an idiot...but it's a whole different thing when you're doing this kind of crap to your animals. This poor dog doesnt have a choice. It's pitiful, she should be in jail for animal abuse.

She is extremely stupid. For the sake of fashion she doesn't care that the dyes aren't for dogs. Moron!

Before everyone starts blasting Audrey you may want to check out these professional grooming contest where they dye dogs and cut their hair to make them look like horses, pandas, flowers, etc. If it's not harmful to the animal then to each their own!

I am a dog lover and have a maltipoo that loves to be ''pretty''. Anything whether it is brushing her hair or putting on a dress or cute t-shirt on her gets her so excited because she feels so good. I know it sounds crazy but she loves the attention she gets from people looking so cute. I admit the constant dying of the hair is a bit over the top, but as long as the dyes are not harmful to the dog, I see no problem with it. To each his own; let's give her a break.
