Demi Moore: Don't Call Me a Cougar

Monday – November 09, 2009 – 11:17am

Cool it with the word cougar, says Demi Moore, the 47-year-old wife of 31-year-old Ashton Kutcher.

"I'm certainly not the first person to be in a relationship with a younger man, but somehow I was plucked out as a bit of a poster girl," she says in the December issue of W. "I don’t know why that is. But I just kind of step back sometimes and say, 'There is some reason, and what is it that I have to share in a positive way?...I'd prefer to be called a Puma."

Months after meeting, the couple wed in 2005. (Moore was 42; Kutcher was Kutcher, 27.)

"The most overwhelming part of meeting someone that you already felt you had such a deep and old connection with is that your feelings are greater than the time you’ve had to actually be with one another," Moore says. "Now we've had the physical time together. The love he has for me makes me a better person by giving me the courage to take risks. I can fail and have someone who loves me just the same. I never knew it was quite possible."

She says their life revolves around daily dinners with her three girls, Rumer, 21, Scout, 18, and Tallulah, 15 (dad is Bruce Willis) and family trips to Idaho, where they own a ranch.

Moore says she does not plan on taking Kutcher's last name, which long has been rumored. (W points out that "'Moore' is the legacy of her first marriage, from 1981 to 1983, to singer Freddy Moore.")

"As a married woman, I am and will always be Mrs. Kutcher," she says. "But I have my career as Demi Moore."

Despite looking younger than ever, Moore - who headlines two upcoming indie films, Happy Tears and The Joneses - also laments how her age is stifling her career.

"The frustrating part is that the type of roles I'd be interested in are not really coming to me," she says. "I hate to say it's a function of my age — but yes, I think in some ways it is. The majority of [female] roles are geared between 25 and 35."

Helping her stay in touch with the current times? Twitter.

She now has 2.2 million Twitter fans. (Kutcher was the first person to reach 1 million followers. He now has 4 million.)

She tells W she loves the potential to create a "dialogue" between herself and fans.

"You post something and get your finger on the pulse," she says. "You know what people are interested in."

The term cougar is demeaning to all women who are with younger men. Another point is...I've dated men my own age(50's)who are far less mature than many so-called younger men.

i think theyre really happy. For those who understand soul mates , there is nothing wrong with the difference in their age. He was old enough to get married. They seem to have an "old" love if you read the article. They knew each other and loved each other long before the physical. Same thing for to my sister and her husband, only theyre only a year differance in age. But theirs was an "old love", soulmates, and married in months. i understand what she means completely. BUT, i do hate what they did to her picture, shes much prettier and her figure much more feminine than that photoCHOPPED pic. please, you only see those pics in covers of romance novels.

So women have to act & date their age while 60 year old men can date 30 year olds....no double standard,is there?

16 years difference should not be a big deal. Ageism is the politically correct prejudice of the day, it seems.

Ok, so when she was getting her drivers license her future husband was just born...Some women get pregnant young and have a kid at that age, he could be her kid!! It must be weird for her own kids having to worry about hiding their guy friends or boyfriends from their mom in case things ever go south between her and Ashton. Demi's own friends better watch her around their sons...Are there no men her own age? Seriously, what do they possibly have in common when they are at different aspects of their lives? How can he even relate to her?

If I were her I'd be mad that they made me look like that. She looks like Megan Fox! Compare that photoshopped one to the one with her, Ashton and J.Aniston. She looks much better and natural in that one! Besides, if she's happy with AK who are we to judge??? JMHO
  • November 10, 2009 - 3:26am jill Says:

She is way way too old for him. She tries so hard it is sad. He is naturally immature. I agree with posters who say that a younger man is fine but Ashton is just a large boy NOTHING manly about him. However, he is probably a really nice guy so that is why she likes him. Still, how can you think of him as an equal when you have about 20 yrs seniority over him?
  • November 09, 2009 - 11:50pm jc Says:

She is beatifull, but her hips look smaller than her legs, that doesn't look natural at all, bad pothoshopeed for a gorgeus woman
  • November 09, 2009 - 11:39pm So Pretty Says:

She is so pretty, and so in shape. She gets more gorgeous with age.
  • November 09, 2009 - 10:50pm erika Says:

So the photo is photoshopped. that is what magazines do. get over it. Demi Moore found love and age makes no difference. When does age EVER matter?
  • November 09, 2009 - 9:05pm cheryl Says:

She sounds like a really stupid person. & by the way...Demi IS a cougar, so she had better get used to being called one.
  • November 09, 2009 - 7:11pm Grandma Demi Says:

Why does she want to be married to an immature, pothead kid? I don't mind if she wanted someone a little younger, but he is just a frat boy.

  • November 09, 2009 - 5:19pm julianna Says:

I think the term Cougar is demeaning to women. I understand why she wouldn't want to be called that. It strikes up an image of a horny older woman who wants to recapture her youth thru younger men. Why can't an older woman be with a younger man because there is a mutual attraction and sometimes chemistry is timeless. Why does the woman have to be viewed as an oversexed predator.
