Exclusive: Jason Mesnick: Molly Gave Up Bachelorette for Me

Wednesday – October 28, 2009 – 2:15pm

What did Molly Malaney potentially give up to be with fiance Jason Mesnick? A starring role in the next installment of The Bachelorette! Also considered: Melissa Rycroft.

In this week's cover story, Mesnick reveals to Us that show producers -- a week after his ill-fated proposal to Rycroft -- "kept asking me if I thought Molly would make a good Bachelorette."

See who's getting married next

But ultimately, the Bachelor "realized I was not willing to let Molly go on TV and have 25 guys fight over her."

What about Rycroft? "Melissa is a great girl, but there wasn't any chemistry," he admits. "So I broke up with her after Christmas, about a month after we wrapped."

Check out a slideshow of reality romances gone bad

Mesnick insists to Us that when the pair taped the After the Final Rose special in January -- in which he dumped a visibly shocked Rycroft and begged Malaney to take him back -- they had already split in private, despite appearances to the contrary.

One key party still in the dark? Would-be Bachelorette Malaney, whom Mesnick was contractually prohibited from contacting until The Bachelor had completely aired. "And at that point, she already would have started filming The Bachelorette!" Mesnick says of his logistical dilemma.

Ewww: Hollywood's grossest kisses

He admits that the controversial After the Final Rose taping (complete with tears and a broken engagment) wasn't the ideal venue to rekindle things with Malaney and win her back. "Obviously, I didn't want it all on TV, but I had to take the chance if it meant getting her back. I'd rather have picked up the phone, trust me!"

Recently engaged to Malaney, the groom-to-be insists that he and Rycroft "were still on good terms after we taped After the Final Rose. Producers asked her to be the next Bachelorette, so we talked about that for weeks. We don't talk anymore, but I wish her nothing but the best . . . I never intended to humiliate her."

Recap reality TV's biggest catfights of all time

Congrats to Jason and Molly. Love them. They deserve all the happiness in the world!!! And, Carmen, below, "from Kirkland." Yea, right, you're from Kirkland. Well, maybe you are and you were obsessed with Jason and he wouldn't give you the time of day. hahahahaha. Guess what haters, most of the world loves these two and you can't stand it.

Yes Jason made a mistake by proposing to Melissa without being 100% sure. Yes Molly should not have taken him back on the spot on national TV. We can go on and on about mistakes. But the bottom line is everyone, and I mean everyone makes mistakes. We just don't happen to have a camera crew following our every move. And how many couple do we all know break off engagements ( even after months even years of "being together")Come on folks, lets all grow up. Being on a reality show and getting to know one another in the midst of a frenzy, competitive unrealistic setting is hardly solid grounds for serious comitment decisions. So Jason made a bad call and when he got back to reality, had second thoughts and followed his heart. What a courageous thing to do. It took guts and bravery. I thought Molly was very honest about her true feelings for him during their seperation and when she took him back so quickly, it only made sense. I commend these two for sticking it out and going against the odds. Molly, You are a beautiful, inteligent woman who deserves all the happiness in the world. Jason, take care of Molly and do right by her. Bottom line you are both human. What a revelation!

LOVE THESE TWO!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for a great article, US. All the nurses at my hospital have your article pinned up at the nurses' station. We all love them. Good luck to them both. This is what real love is.

These two should have a movie written about them or a book. How much more in love can you be? Wow. They evoke such strong passion from both sides, it's incredible. I've never seen a couple who have such strong supporters and such whiny detractors. All I know is that everyone I personally know, loves them and their story. I think there are very few "people" who hate as much as the few who wrote comments here. Supportive people don't ever leave comments, they just read the articles. Detractors/hators come in just to spew venom. Well, at least we know that US has really brought in everyone. Just proves that these two are still news and people still want to hear about them. Otherwise, why would anyone take the time to comment, good or bad? All my best wishes to jason and molly. Beautiful couple.

I am so sick of both shows, give me a break, only reason why you want to be on a show like this is for some time of stardom. And the ones that are looking for a mate, give me a break, you are looking for a short goodtime and the spotlight.

I can only hope that if these two idiots actually get married, they don't broadcast their wedding on TV. Jason is a loser and Molly has no self-esteem.
  • November 02, 2009 - 9:11am Carmen from Kirkland Says:

Molly and Jason are real losers and their 15 minutes of fame was up long ago. Yet they think that the American public wants their wedding televised or to read Jason's book. Think again--BORING! Jason, it is time for you to get a real job and stop being such a mooch. Stop pretending to be a single dad--your ex is so much more of a single parent because she has to pay you child support because you have no talents, abilities or skills and nobody will hire you.
  • November 02, 2009 - 8:46am Josephina Says:

I would NEVER have watched the Bachelorette if Molly was starring in it. She is soooooooo incredibly boring, stiff and ugly! Get your hair out of a ponytail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • November 02, 2009 - 8:44am bella Says:

Love the huge letters on the cover spelling out "THIS TIME I'M SURE." lol - yeah, right, like you'd even know what "sure" is, loser! :)
  • November 01, 2009 - 9:25pm Vic Says:

Why are these two idiots still in the public eye? They are both LOSERS!
  • November 01, 2009 - 2:51pm Anonymous Says:

Following his heart? Puhleeze! It's obvious these two are just famewh*ring around, hoping some lame-a$$ reality show will offer to pay for their insipid wedding and show it on tv. Ugh! As for Molly giving up being the Bachelorette, dream on, you sleazebag creep, because she is way too fugly to have ever been the bachelorette, no one would watch.
  • November 01, 2009 - 1:57pm yesitsme Says:

He "never intended to humiliate her" Please...humiliation and rejection are the foundation of this joke of a show. It is the bricks and concrete on which this show is built. Anybody who would agree to appear on one of these idiotic shows is beyond a nitwit. The people they get to appear have: 1. No brains 2. No self respect 3. No shame 4. No sense of right and wrong 5. No dignity The list could go on and on, plus most of these people are average looking or below. Nobody with any mojo or anything going for themselves subjects themselves to this B.S.

hey growup - Melissa and her man did not reunite on New Years Eve. If you can prove it, please do so, though I don't think you can. They didn't start dating again until February.

Jason can wake up to Molly's pugface for the rest of his life. Good for him. But please spare me the crap about how good it is to be far from the cameras when you continue to court the tabloids. Hypocrites!!

  • October 31, 2009 - 9:16pm To all Jason bashers Says:

To everyone that can't get past Jason dumping Melissa. GET OVER IT. Jason is only following his heart. I thought it was wrong of him to dump her on TV, but what is done is done. He is happy with Molly, I myself thought he should stay with Melissa, but I also liked Molly. So stop bashing Jason and Molly for being in love.
  • October 31, 2009 - 9:13pm growup Says:

um, Lisa, you're right about Melissa "reuniting" with her "man." They reunited on New Years Eve. Ummmm, hmmmm. Wasn't Melissa still engaged then? Secondly, Jason never said "we're all great friends." If you can prove it, please do so, although I don't think you can. Lastly, when you grow up into a woman, maybe then you'll stop posting childish comments.
