Kate Gosselin: Kids Are "Not Suffering From This"

On TLC's pretaped You Ask, Kate Answers special Monday night, Kate Gosselin -- answering questions emailed by fans from her easy chair at home-- rejected chatter that her eight children are hurting.
"They're not suffering from this," she says of their participation in the reality hit and, presumably, the continued media scrutiny surrounding her divorce from their father Jon.
"They're kids 99% of the time," she says. Of their accidental fame? "I'm raising kids who are going to scrutinize people inside and out." The conflicts and cameras simply help lead to "really good discussion points."

During the one-hour special, she spoke and cracked jokes about her hair, the prospect of finding another man (or not), clipping coupons, becoming a movie star -- and what the kids might become when they grow up. Some highlights:
Her hair "kind of evolved over time." She insisted to her current hairdresser that she keep the infamous spikes towards the back of her head. They are, she says, a "good way to show my attitude."

She "laughed my head off" when she learned of the Halloween wigs inspired by her 'do. "They don't call it the Kate wig, because then they would have to give me proceeds. Which I find very interesting."
She's not sure if she wants to get married again -- or if there will be any takers. "I struggle because I really don't want to be married," she says. "Can you blame me?" She admits that single motherhood is tough -- "the aloneness is so alone." But ten years from now? "Nobody's going to buy into my mess. I'll probably be alone, but that's OK."

The kids have an untouched -- and untouchable -- college fund. "There is a healthy amount of money put away for the kids, and it is safe," Gosselin confirms. "It will not be touched other than for education. The money is there, come hell or highwater."
She still clips coupons. "Why not?" she says. "Once you're a saver, you're always a saver. At the end of the day, it's more money in your pocket."

Kate Plus Eight or not, she wants a career in television -- and maybe movies! "I've discovered that I've done enough years of TV that it's a normal, natural place for me to be," she says. And watch out, Hollywood. "I'd love to be in a movie!" she exclaims, suggesting "the voice of a cartoon character. For my kids. That would be fun!"
She predicts what her kids might grow up to become -- and the charming Joel might be a ladykiller like his father. Cara "will be a good teacher," and Mady might be "CEO of a company." Alexis could be a veterinarian, while Hannah will be "caring for people." As for the boys? Aaden might be a "professor teaching physics" and Colin could become "an architect or engineer." Last but not least, Joel "might be a model on the cover of GQ with that adorable smile. He'll suck some girl in and she'll figure out he's clueless. Wait, haven't we seen this before?" she says, laughing.

Kate ROCKS!! =] She is a single mother doing her thing! She is doing a great job caring for her 8 kids.. Kate quit her job to be a stay at home mother while Jon messes around.. now Jon is a jobless fat little kid sobbing who isn't around for his kids much!!! -

I think Kate is doing a great job and a mother and If I had a husband like Jon I would have got rid of him asap. He is now trying to show remorse because women a seeming him for what he is. A leopard don't change his spots. That goes for Jon. Anyone can be good for a little while, but the true colors will come out. You go Kate and God will send you someone that will love you for you and the kids, they are precious. -

Put cameras in every aspect of the house and yard and get his lying on tape and proof of his crap, than let the judge have it. Keep Hailey away from your kids at any cost girl. Kate said she had no regrets about renewing wedding vows in Hawaii because "it was a really great trip"! That's Kate,it's what she's all about...a really great trip, great experiences for her kids (oh yeah and for HER too)that would come at no cost! She claims she said yes to the show for the memories it would provide her..ever hear of a scrapbook Kate!? "We got to do things we never would have done"! No kidding...should have thought about that before adding any more children to the set of twins. They couldn't afford to have anymore children but went for it anyway! Doesn't matter that the marriage is over and the family is undone...she got the trips and all the other freebies so no big deal. What a user this women is and she won't even own up to it! -

Kate hasn't even 'walked in her shoes' so why should anyone have to give her some slack? She tells so many lies she can't even keep up with them. Way to not be 'targeted and torn apart' - get out of the limelight. If you go back to being a regular mom the paps would get tired of you very fast. Her line - the kids are not 'acting' they are just being themselves. Wellll, then Kate was not acting, she was just being herself. So, how can she feel she has gained enough experience from all her years on the show (not even 5 seasons) to qualify her as an actress? Oh, maybe from acting the part of a mother (not so much). -

I don't see how anyone can blame Jon for giving up. Kate displays so many signs of Bipolar disorder, at least Bipolar I. The hedonism, grandiosity, aggressiveness, irritability, the snap emotional judgments, the short attention span -- the pattern is there. I've seen Jon and others try to explain something rationally to her, only to have it barely register as Kate's "off to the races" again. And she's oblivious to the effect her behavior has on others; once, it was pointed out to her and her response was basically, "Oh really? I don't notice people". The relationship made Jon look like a wimp because he doesn't have the level of resoluteness required to moderate Kate's emotionality. She needs someone who will stay on her like white on rice, but most men don't want to parent a grown woman. Jon was so aversive to it that he rebelled like a child himself. -

Well I guess we all have our dreams and that is just what they usually are just dreams. Yes it would be nice if all their children turn out the way she invision's them but maybe not. I would think she would want a private life for her and their kids since everything they have been through in the public but it sounds like she can't get enough of it. This is sad for the children she has a profession she can fall back on so why not use it for the children's sake. Instead she want's to be a movie star? Proves to me it is all about Kate and the kids are going to be raised by nannies and for this reason alone she think's they are going to grow-up and be good people with the kind of message she is sending to them from being gone so much out of their lives. Good luck to you and yours you will need it. She had the kids and now she want's to do what she wants not what is best for her family. -

How can Kate say that the show has not harmed her children. The last time I watched the show the kids were yelling and screaming and hitting each other.I had to change the channel; no wonder Kate does not want to be home with the kids. They are spoiled brats. -
