It was a good day in court -- relatively speaking -- for Lindsay Lohan.

L.A. Superior Court Judge Marsha Revel granted the tumultuous actress an additional year to fulfill the terms of probation relating to her 2007 DUI arrest, thus raising her probation period from three to four years.

TMZ reports that Lohan, 23, had missed about half of the 86 mandated alcohol education classes -- and thus risked jail time for violating her probationary requirements.

Lohan's lawyer explained to the judge that her client missed classes because of her "extremely busy" schedule. Lohan took an approved leave of absence to leave California for work, but the star then failed to re-emerge at class.

In 2007, Lohan pled guilty to two counts of being under the influence of cocaine and no contest to two counts of drunken driving and one count of reckless driving. The courts placed her on three years of probation and she spent 84 minutes in jail.

Lohan will be back in court December 15 for a progress hearing.

I actually feel bad for her. She really has no one in her life to count on and never has. The drugs and alcohol have all but ruined her career and sadly have made her look older than she is (Hopefully if she gets sober and healthy again her youthful looks will return). I don't really think she was given a lighter sentence (I know others who have had similar convictions), however what is most important is saving this girls life! She needs these classes and more, like AA or NA, and I think accountability to a sponsor to do that. However I think it will be harder for her to work a program, or do the classes without feeling the love I think she is lacking in her life. Most who go through programs for their disorder have a supportive family, spouce, or friend. She has said she feels alone in her life, no one should feel that way. I can only hope that it doesn't take as much as it did for Robert Downey Jr. to finally gain sobriety and get his life back. However, perhaps he is a good example that it can be done. He looks great now, better than he has in years, is happy, and has had some success at the box office again.
