Sharon Stone: Meryl Streep "Looks Like An Unmade Bed"

Thursday – January 07, 2010 – 8:10pm

Sharon Stone sure knows how to pay a compliment to fellow actresses.

In an interview with the British magazine Tatler, Stone, 51, heaps odd praise on the physical appearance of Meryl Streep, 60.

"I think that's why Meryl Streep is working so much, because she looks like a woman we can all relate to," Stone said.

Did Sharon make it onto the worst-dressed list for 2009?

"I look at her and I think, 'I'm chasing my kids, I've moved my parents in with me, I'm coping with food spills - that looks like me in real life'."

See Meryl Streep's big screen twin

The always-outspoken Stone doesn't exactly quit while she's ahead discussing Streep, the multiple Oscar-winner and current star of the hit It's Complicated. She goes on to add, "Meryl looks like an unmade bed," Stone says. "That's what I look like. To me, that looks true."

(On Friday, Stone clarified her comments about Streep. "It is not OK with me for someone to take a statement I made with good-natured intent and to try and make it in to something politically incorrect," she told UsMagazine.com in a statement. "My love and support for what she represents for women right now is extraordinarily important.")

As far as her own looks, Stone insists that she's 100% bonafide: "I have had zero, nothing done to myself: no lifting, no Botox, no injectables," she said.

Older women, younger men: see the slideshow!

Backtracking a bit, she clarifies, "I did try something once, and I saw myself in a movie and didn't like the way I looked. I thought I looked like I had a giant balloon head, and I felt it wasn't for me."

They did what? Look back on the celebrity flipouts

How does the Basic Instinct star keep her looks, then? "The old-fashioned way," she tells Tatler. "To go to the gym and take care of your internal life. It might take more effort but you get something nicer to give back to the world."

Sharon Stone is jealous of Meryl Streep.

One big problem with Sharon Stone's remarks: she has to have had some MAJOR plastic work done because the picture the TV showed of her for this news item showed her looking like a tight, tight, tight, plastic-mannequin- face. She has aged badly no matter how many nips and tucks she has had done (and it looks like a lot). Inner beauty shows through to the outside and this may explain it - Ms. stone is known more for her insensitive remarks and actions than for any niceness.

Meryl Streep is an actress not only of unparralleled talent, she is a woman who knows how to keep ALL of her clothes on and look like a LADY on every occasion that she appears in public. This is not true of Sharon Stone. That's why you find that classic Basic Instinct on her resume and not on Meryl Streeps!!!

I don't think Sharon Stone was insulting Meryl Streep by saying that she looks "real"...like an unmade bed. What annoyed me is that she concludes that it is why she gets to work. She gets to work because she is always impeccable in her work and unlike Ms. Stone, she knows how to act.

I would rather look like an unmade bed than one that is made up because an unmade bed looks like you have been doing something with your life!!

oopps... I meant to say it's not in Us Magazine's nor other reader forums best interest to try to figure out who exactly we are -- volume of comments is a very important measurement of engagement. Beyond just readership or viewing the article.

Hey K, on sites like this it doesn't matter if you use a real or bogus email address because your computer has its own unique IP address that these sites collect. Don't be so stupid as to think you can just use a bogus email address and therefore, no one can ever tie your comments to you... Having said that, it's not in US Magazine and other reader forums to pursue any of us for what we say. Oh, and US knows if you try to use different emails to make it look like you're different people because you only have ONE IP address. Anyway, you're never truly anonymous -- even on the internet. Today's lesson over.

Sharon has had "some-thing" done. Who is she kidding? Now if she Can just she get an acting gene inserted some-where. Like I said the attractive and Talented stand the test of time, bye bye Sharon. Loved It's Complicated. I am even taking my sister so I can go see it again!

I was glad to see that the comments were supportive of Meryl Streep. She is such a class act & a WONDERFUL actress. Is there anything she can't do? She has also stayed married to one man & have what appears to be a wonderful family. She would never make a remark like Sharon.

Seems like a backhanded compliment. Meryl Streep looked the most beautiful and happiest she ever did in her movie It's Complicated. Definately one of the funniest movies ever. Go Meryl.

A 100 years from now, Meryl Streep will still be celebrated as one of the best actresses of all time. A 100 years from now, no one will talk about Sharon Stone except when they purchase the 1990's Edition of Trivial Pursuit and she's the answer to: Who was the actress who did the no panties scene in the 1992 blockbuster Basic Instinct? In other words, Meryl Streep is an icon and a legend for all time. Her acting will stand the test of time. Sharon Stone looked hot in her younger days and was willing to show her naked crotch in a movie.
  • January 08, 2010 - 2:59pm Janet Says:

It seems like Sharon was almost trying to pay Meryl a compliment, sort of. Not the best choice of words maybe, but I think she was admiring Meryl for the way she is always appealing to audiences, no matter what she's doing. That's how I read it. Both of these ladies have enjoyed long lasting careers, although Meryl's career may be a bit more distinguished than Sharon's.

Guess freedom of speech is not welcome here. My MEOW remark got deleted. I didn't know this site was censored.
  • January 08, 2010 - 2:00pm K Says:

Have you seen her in It's complicated.... it suffices to say she will NEVER be a has been! and...no I am not a die hard Meryl fan I just know great talent when I see it. It's hard to find these days...ahem.
  • January 08, 2010 - 1:56pm K Says:

MEOW~ If YOU, Sharon, had 1/10th of the talent and class Meryl Streep HAS, you would not have to resort to such catty undignified remarks. It really is beneath you, or so we all thought. Who has all the nominations.....oh that's right it ISN'T you and it's obvious to everyone why. Meryl is incredibly talented, "believable" in all her parts and far exceeds you in all aspects. Hollywood it's self obviously knows it which is exactly why she gets the great parts, SHE can carry them off. Unmade beds can be sexy and and she IS attractive. Unlike many who use their looks to get by and when that's gone so are they. SHE will never fall in that category, it's called TALENT. Jealousy is nothing more than an ugly, UGLY unprofessional opinion. Eat your heart out. ~Karen
  • January 08, 2010 - 1:52pm OCMama Says:

Meryl looks better at 60 than Sharon looks at 51. Sharon knows that and see's that and is saying, why am I not getting any work. Try not bashing fellow actors.
  • January 08, 2010 - 1:16pm yourthe1 Says:

Wow, what did Sharon mean by that??? Does it mean that Meryl Streep is messy like an unmade bed? BTW she got oscar and nominated for some times. Please Sharon, you are not that great. Are you jealous Sharon????
  • January 08, 2010 - 1:06pm Cincy Says:

Meryl looks absolutely beautiful, radiant AND stylish in 'It's Complicated.' Sharon should look so good. She's mess and her life is a mess!
