Sally Bowles dreams of being a big film star, and come this fall, two big film stars will have played her on Broadway! Emma Stone is stepping into Ms. Bowles’ tap shoes, following Michelle Williams’ applauded performance in the Broadway revival of the Tony Award-winning musical Cabaret.
The role in the latest production, which debuted in October 2013, will become Stone’s on Nov. 11, USA Today reports. Liza Minnelli famously played Sally Bowles in the 1972 film adaptation, which won her an Oscar.
Broadway newcomer Stone, 25, joins renowned film, TV, and theater actor Alan Cumming, who has been with the production from the beginning. Cumming also played the show’s Emcee in the 1993 West End production and won a Tony Award in 1998 for his role in another Cabaret Broadway revival. The show’s run has been extended through March 29, and Stone is expected to stay with the cast until at least Feb. 1.
Though she’s not known for her musical talents, the Magic in the Moonlight actress actually got her start on 2005’s reality singing show The New Partridge Family and even sang a song at a pep rally in 2010’s Easy A.
Plus, Stone is sure to get stage tips from longtime boyfriend and Amazing Spider-Man costar Andrew Garfield, who starred alongside the late Philip Seymour Hoffman in 2012’s Death of a Salesman, earning a Tony nomination for his role as Biff.
