Gilmore Girls’ Scott Patterson Is Team Dean, Talks Reunion: Plus, See Pics of Him Now!

The "Gilmore Guys" podcast Twitter handle shared photos with Scott Patterson on May 20.

Coffee’s on the house! Because Luke “I Just Like to See You Happy” Danes (aka actor Scott Patterson) has just revealed some intense Gilmore Girls news via the “Gilmore Guys” iTunes podcast, and we basically can’t handle it.

The former baseball pitcher-turned-flannel-wearing-diner owner, now 56, had a lot of shocking revelations during the hour-and-a-half-long podcast, including some details on a potential reunion that are tastier than one of his cheeseburgers.

Here were the seven biggest reveals:

Dean, Rory, Lorali, Luke
Dean, Rory, Lorelai, and Luke go on a double date on Gilmore Girls.

1. Umm, What?!? He’s Team Dean

He played the uncle of Jess Mariano (Milo Ventimiglia), but Patterson thinks that Dean Forester (Jared Padalecki) would have been the best choice for Rory Gilmore (Alexis Bledel).

“I think Team Dean,” he explained. “He was the original one. He was the most soulful and the most poetic. I think it was Dean. But Jess was so obviously the wrong one — he was so obviously the train wreck. He was the fling that she had to have. It was always Dean because he was so in love with her.”

Umm, agree to disagree?

2. Some Sort of Something Is in the Works!

Okay, try not to squeal like Sookie when she gets the perfect produce, but there is a glimmer of hope for those fans praying for an on-screen reunion.

“I don’t want to mislead the fans,” he said. “I will say this, there are talks going on at the moment. I can’t really go into any details, but there is some activity. I’m hopeful, and I’m in. I think it would be a big event, and I think it would be a great fan celebration.”

With the big Gilmore Girls reunion at the ATX Festival next month, we’re holding our collective breaths!

3. He Was in a Relationship During Gilmore Girls

Sorry, for those shipping Luke and Lorelai in real life. Patterson was a taken man throughout the entirety of the series.

“I was seeing somebody the whole time. I was very stable in my relationship. It got me through [the show] sane,” he said. He added, though, that Lauren Graham “was my kind of gal: pretty, smart, funny.” Swoon.

4. He Used to Prank Milo Ventimiglia

While he was pushing Jess off docks, Patterson was also teasing his on-screen nephew in real life.

“I’m a bit of a practical joker,” he admitted. “I used to like to put shaving cream in Milo’s shoes. I once nailed Milo’s shoes to the floor. I used to put vaseline on Milo’s toilet seat in his trailer. I knew he could take it. He’d get back at me, but I’m not going to tell you how.”

5. He Predicted How Long Gilmore Girls Would Last

Though he admitted to not realizing how big the fan base would be, Patterson did dish that he once predicted exactly how long the series would run.

“The conversation at the Christmas party I had with Lauren [Graham] was ‘How many seasons do you think we’ll go?’ She said five, and I actually said seven,” he said. “Because it just felt so good. In your face, Lauren!”

6. Luke Danes Was Originally Supposed to Be a Guest Role in the Pilot

When Patterson came in to read for the role, he thought he would only be appearing in one episode.

“Yeah, guest star on the pilot, that’s all it was!” he said. “But the script begins with Luke’s Diner and ends with Luke’s Diner, so my team and I knew it’s a chemistry check. So we knew the chemistry if it [was] good with Lauren then you might get some more scenes,” he revealed, saying producers came back to him after taping the first episode. “They wanted two more episodes, we said no, they wanted four more episodes, we said no. We were holding out for series regular.” Thank god!

7. He’s Now an Artist and Photographer

In addition to acting (his next role is on Lifetime’s Kidnapped: The Hannah Anderson Story), Patterson is also working on growing his art and photography business.

“Summer of 2006 I really needed to have some sort of creative outlet other than acting so I started painting again,” he revealed. “I converted my garage into an art studio and just painted all summer. And then I took up photography.”
