Gwen Stefani revealed that she and her husband Gavin Rossdale fought while working together on The Voice: "We had only collaborated on making babies," she told Us Weekly.

Their voices went up a notch or two! Gwen Stefani told Us Weekly at a recent NYC luncheon for The Voice that she and her husband Gavin Rossdale argued while working together on the NBC reality TV show.

"The whole thing was a surprise," Stefani, 44, said of filling the judges' seat left vacant by Christina Aguilera and Shakira. "I just had my baby [Apollo], and I got the call. I had no idea sitting here would be so fun. I was really a bit anxious after I signed it and was like, 'Oh my god, what have I gotten myself into?'"

Veteran Voice judge Adam Levine gave her some advice. "The night before, she said, 'Um…what is the deal here? This is crazy. What do I do?'" Levine chimed in. "And I was like, 'You'll be fine, don’t worry.'" Added Stefani: "It's been seamless. I feel like I have nothing to stress over. I think the biggest surprise is how inspired I am about just being around the show, being around all the music, wearing this hat for the first time and looking back on everything I’ve done."

The No Doubt lead also revealed what it was like to work alongside her husband Rossdale, who joined The Voice in July as an advisor. "Honestly, at first I'd say, 'Oh, yeah, that’s a good idea,'" Stefani said of working with the Bush rocker, 48. "But when it came down to it, because it all kind of happened at one time: starting the show, picking advisors… it happened really fast in a condensed period of time, and I had a freak-out."

She recalled one particular incident which led to an argument. "We literally got in a fight the night before because I was like, 'I don’t know about this…'" she recalled. "I got calmed down and it was really fun."

"It was just awkward, because we had never done anything [together]," Stefani continued of her husband, with whom she shares three boys: Kingston, 8, Zuma 6, and Apollo, 7 months. "We had only collaborated on making babies together, we had never done anything outside [of that]. I was really nervous about having him there, we have different opinions about music. We like different music, and I was like, 'You know what? Let’s embrace it. Let’s just do it.'"

That shift in opinion worked out well ultimately for the dynamic duo, who have been married for 14 years. "He’s so talented, he’s so smart, he knows so much about music and it was really, really fun to do that together," Stefani gushed. "I just feel really lucky because now he’s super invested in the show emotionally, so I can come home and be like, 'and then, so-and-so, she left my team,' and he’d be like 'oh, really?'" She mused: "If he hadn’t been there, he would have been like 'whatever.' Now we’re both in it together and you get so emotionally invested in these people, it’s a game, but a game of lives, so it’s pretty cool."

Season 7 of NBC's The Voice premieres Monday, Sept. 22.
