Fans and critics of Taylor Swift have come to expect either painful breakup tunes or light, bubbly love songs from the singer-songwriter phenom. Her latest single, “Sweeter Than Fiction,” is the latter. Her first new song since her 2012 album Red was released has an ’80s vibe and will be featured in the upcoming British biopic One Chance.
The film tells the story of store clerk Paul Potts who rose to fame as an opera singing sensation onBritain’s Got Talent in 2007.
Swift’s song was co-written by fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff (who is currently dating Girls star and creator Lena Dunham), which is perhaps the most surprising element of the entire song.
Featuring lines like “proved me right when you proved them wrong” and “there you stand 10 feet tall, I will say I knew it all along,” the tune has all the makings of another hit for the 23-year-old singer-songwriter.
Swift released her fourth studio album, Red, in October 2012 to the highest recorded opening U.S. album sales in a decade. The Grammy winner became the only female artist to have two million-plus opening weeks.
She is currently writing songs for her next album and traveling the globe for her Red Tour.
