"In light of recent tragic events and out of respect for the victims, their families and our viewers, we have decided to postpone the premiere date for the upcoming USA Network series Shooter, to July 26," a rep for the network said in a statement released to Us on Monday, July 11.

The thriller series, based on the 2007 Mark Wahlberg film of the same name, stars Phillippe as a veteran military sniper and war hero who attempts to clear his name after he is wrongly accused of a crime. The series had been scheduled to premiere on Tuesday, July 19.

The tragic July 7 sniper attack left five Dallas police officers dead and seven officers plus two civilians wounded during a peaceful protest against police brutality.

This is not the first time that real-life events have caused TV networks to change their planned schedules. Among the notable examples is Fox's popular drama series 24, which was set to premiere on October 20, 2001, but was pushed back to November 6, following 9/11. The pilot centered on Kiefer Sutherland's character attempting to stop terrorists from carrying out a possible assassination attempt.

Last month, TNT delayed its Last Ship season 3 premiere by a week because of a story line that was similar to the June 12 tragedy at an Orlando nightclub that left 49 people dead and dozens of others injured.

Shooter premieres on USA Tuesday, July 26, at 10 p.m. ET.
