Lean back, Remy Ma fans! The rapper recently stopped by Us Weekly's headquarters in New York with her husband and fellow MC, Papoose, to talk about her time in prison and why the couple joined the cast of Love & Hip Hop for Season 6.
During their stop, the “Conceited” lyricist, 35, revealed who convinced them to join the cast. “I had never seen the show before, but once I saw it, I was like, ‘No, no, no,’" she says. But once executive producer Mona Scott-Young wined and dined the couple, they decided to give it a shot. “She wanted to get back to what the show was originally about,” says Remy. “Love and hip hop!"
Remy also shared that fans can expect to get a more intimate look into her life and marriage with Papoose, 37. The cameras follow the duo as they try to find a new normal during Remy’s first year home from a six-year prison sentence served for assault, weapons possession, and coercion.
And while the former Terror Squad group member is starring on the small screen in Love & Hip Hop, she hasn’t forgotten about her music: She’s set to release her new single, “Hands Down,” on Dec. 14, and is aiming to put out a new album next year.
While the star didn’t comment on her rumored beef with Nicki Minaj, she did say she doesn’t have a favorite female rapper right now. “I haven’t seen anybody in awhile that overall grasped me where I thought, ‘I like her music, I like her lyrics, I like her style,’” she told Us. “I haven’t gotten that package yet. I’m just a hard act to follow!”
Watch the video above to hear Remy talk about the challenges she faced in prison, and how that impacted her life.
Love & Hip Hop Season 6 premieres Monday, Dec. 14, at 8 p.m. ET on VH1.
