Since there are so many different STDs and many people have them it's important to remember to get tested before you have any unprotected sex. Many STDs don't show themselves. Look at the symptoms of herpes. Many times it's easy to tell and other times especially in women you have to get a blood test just to know.

Ok so she's being honest about her feelings towards the subject, yes naturally we are probably not monogamorous beings any 'ethicalist' could preach for that. I think there is only just about one species of animal that is.. hmm and maybe not even that. But hey in a society without stating the reasons which are sure to be guessed it's the most stable option. Whether that is medical or emotional ect. She's not stated shes a serial cheating 'ride and wave goodbye' type of girl. I'm sure noone here can deny they don't know someone whos slept with multiply partners without being in a relationship. She's not giving it a noble status or glamorizing it she's merely just expressing a part of her 'sexuality' - her being. Plently of celebritys in lyrics or picking up a paper and reading an article would label themselves as a 'player'...all she has done is raised a controversial, honest and realistic topic expressed her opinion and now is either going to be praised or slaughtered which was bound to occur in the first place!

Ariel Levy is an editor for a magazine and while I can't, won't and don't condone this type of behavior for females OR males, I didn't come away after reading this book that anything of value is in the contents. Facts and statistics are readily obtained by doing a simple search on the web. Her opinions have no professional back up (such as a psychology degree) and writing one book about female sexuality raises red flags for me. You have to do better than interview a few ladies to say women are sabotaging our fight for equality. The only thing I read loud and clear from this book is that Ms. Levy is uncomfortable, as are many women, with their sexuality and it confuses her when she see's other women who aren't. Does sexual confidence apply to every woman who flaunts it? Of course it doesn't. Does applying the label "Female Chauvinist Pigs" or implying that wearing a thong, makes for a Raunchy, immoral woman always? Again, of course it doesn't. This is a very narrow view with far to little "research" for me to take even remotely serious.

I said it was utter hypocrisy to make a judgment and say that a group of people are judgemental because by doing so, you also are placing judgement. I never once insinuated that I am not judgmental...your mistake for not following the general rules taught in reading comprehension. I am frank and yes, I am judgemental as I believe most people are and should be to some degree because everyone should stand form something and truth is not relative as proven by no matter how hard we try we cannot will ourselfves out of having AIDS. I however, am not properly catagorized as a conservative and I am not sure how you jumped to that particular judgment.
All of you liberal free sex junkies would do well to read "Female Cheauvinist Pigs" and see how attitudes like these in the false name of feminism are setting the women's movement back decades.

Anon 4:11 PM : How do you know that she isn't being responsible and using common sense and self-control? Because she gets regularly tested for HIV/STDs??? This is one of the BIG problems in this country. When somebody gets tested regularly, they are apparently sleeping around and using no self control, or condoms. That is one of the reasons why many people DO NOT get tested because of the stigma attached with it. While using common sense and self control is of course a good idea, people do mess up and lose control. Even one time of losing control can lead to an outcome of an STD. I think that there are people that are aware of that and try to then act responsibly. Sometimes you just have to think REALISTICALLY. But on the other hand, if someone choses to have many sexual partners and use protection, get tested regularly, ect., I am not sure why people care so much.

Yes, we talk about sex and stupidly still deem condoms the ultimate form of prevention instead of a more balanced approach that includes positive lifestyle choices and condoms as an absolute to fall back on when better judgement is lacking. Condoms are not an absolute!!! They are rather reliable for HIV prevention when used properly, yes, but ignorance abounds here regarding the other STDs that are not so regionally restricted. Have not any of you guys seen the endless photos out there showing warts among other things on the scrotum, anus and a number of other parts that a condom does not cover!!! And on women these diseases can be in exterior regions of the female anatomy that can be spread to a places surrounding the male genetalia where he is not protected by a condom. This should be common sense and certainly common knowledge in America where we talk about this so much yet idiocy manages to thrive here in the minds of mentally challenged America that is so busy trying to throw an inner tube out to a drowning explorer in the pirranah infested waters instead of telling people reconsider swimming there in the first place. AIDS is not the only beast out there...and condoms cannot offer absolute protection from all that waits to rot your crotch. Responsible people need a balnce. If your sex is all that then surely a condom isn't total protection.

To all the imbociles that assume that the only people condemnng her remarks are conservative...think again. There are a few of us out there that celebrate sex, but also celebrate common sense and self-control. There are also a few of us that are tired of trendy Hollywood trying to sound intelligent, but sound like the same clanging bell.

I think it is a great thing that she is making a statement like this! There are sooo many kids that look up to these actors/actresses and I believe YES Scarlett is a positive role model! She is AWARE of the diseases out there and she also is at a healthy weight and is not into the whole "Hollywood SKinny trend". I would much rather prefer my neices to look upto someone like Scarlett than the rest of these hookers today i.e LL/PH etc....

Wow, you guys are getting WAY too deep about all of this. She has been with the same guy and has enough respect for herself and Josh to get tested to make sure they're both safe. Bottom line. Also, the reason she gets tested every 6 months is because of the fact that it can lay dormant for an extended period of time. Actually this is a smart thing to do. Another thing...condoms CAN protect you from HIV if used PROPERLY. Or unless youre using sheepskin. Sorry Anonymous 8:23. All you have to do is read the packaging. Latex is non porous which is why it protects against STDs and HIV. Where have you been getting your info? Why do you think condoms are such a big deal and pushed on the public so much? THEY WORK! Anywho-enough of the medical lesson...I'm here to be entertained!

As for Scarlett, I think she is being a responsible adult. I dont necessarily need to know that much info about her but good for her.
