DC is a GREAT city to live in if:
1. You have enough money to live in a safe area in Northwest DC (i.e Kalorama) and/or the suburbs and send your children to good schools (private schools are excellent in the District as are public schools in the suburbs). Obviously they have enough dough.
2. You need really high security. Obviously, another "yes." While Hollywood definitely knows how to cater to famous people, Brangelina is unusually famous even for Hollywood. And their kids are unusually famous and there's safety concerns. DC schools are really good at this--Chelsea Clinton went to school in DC while her dad was president. Restaurants, etc. are used to dealing with presidents and their families and secret service/bodyguards.
3. You have an international or political bent. All the think tanks, congress, etc. are in DC if you do work with them. Also, this means, if you choose to do so, you can send your kid to an international school with ambassador's kids or to a school with a lot of kids of people in the political/policy community.
