The doctor may be out on Grey's Anatomy.
On the May 17 finale, Isaiah Washington's Dr. Preston Burke left his tentative bride-to-be, Cristina Yang, on their wedding day. And now it looks like Washington himself will be taking off as well.
“He will not be back as a series regular,” a source close to ABC tells Us, noting that the embattled star, 43 – who has been under fire ever since calling costar T.R. Knight, 34, a “f—got” – “could possibly show up for a few episodes” next season.
Still, Washington’s rep insists, “Isaiah is not off the show. We do not have a contract yet, but we expect to."
Katherine Heigl, 28, said her costar “just needs to stop talking” after Washington used the f-word again at the January 15 Golden Globes, but the damage had been done.
“The cast – especially the women – just don’t like him,” says a Grey’s source.
“The stars of the show really felt ABC made a mistake by keeping Isaiah [after his controversial behavior].”
Counters a Washington pal, “They won’t get rid of Isaiah because, with Kate [Walsh] leaving, they don’t want to ruin the magic.”
An ABC rep could not be reached for comment.

I think every one looses control and says things that are hurtful. I have done it. You have done it. Everyone has done it. Say you are sorry...move on....and learn from it. He is not a bad person he just said something hurtful and was lashing out.
hey people, lets get over it already! it was wrong, yeah yeah, but he apologised! he's only human. we are all guilty of that sin. sometimes we just cannot hold back our irritation over something, no matter how hard we try.
T.R should be proud of his sexuality, or what do u think?
I hope Mr. IW gets hanged in front of a burning cross!
Hi, I am 17 yrs. old and I love grey's Anatomy, sexy baby, but I do not think he should have been fired. Yes, he did say some demeaning things to his co-star but come on he adds depth and character to this show. No one else in this show can be strick, sweet, smart, and direct with the utmost confidence as Berk. On the hand George, the loser of Grey's Anatomy whom basically has the depth of a piece of paper in this show is still on here. Berk come back Grey's will suck with out you.
Ok, I don't know about the rest of the world, but here in America we all are expected to treat our co-workers in a respectful manner no matter what we think about them. In fact, if we do start throwing around derogatory, demeaning, hostile statements, it is called creating a hostile work environment and is grounds for dismissal. This is an educated intelligent, hardworking, talented actor who chose to not follow the standards of conduct for employment, was warned, repeated the offense, and was fired. I will miss his character, but if he was really causing such disruption in the workplace I am sure it was impacting the productiveness of everyone's work. Why don't they try to bring another actor in for the part. Maybe IW will find employment elsewhere and will have learned the lesson that the workplace and public forums that can impact people's workplaces are not the place to express your personal views.
I am from Barbados and I just love the show Grey's Anatomy. But most of all I love the cast, particularly the characters. They all seem to bring a special blend to the show which somehow creates variety and at the same time a sense of balance. However, the character of Preston Burke is exceptional and at the same time warm and endearing. Additionally, his role is a very positive portrayal of a black male in a world where sometimes it is very hard to see or hear positive things about black people. The character of Dr. O'Malley is also an endearing one he brings a very humanistic approach to the entire picture. For the future of the picture. I would beg you to bring back Isaiah Washington and give us a happy ending of him tying the knot with Dr. Yang.(Again something positive) His performances are solid and very realistic. He has apologised and I do believe that it is time to get beyond all that and remember that these shows are all about acting and ratings are very important. Without Dr. Burke's character, I see no need to watch this picture anymore.
IW just blew me away. He's a great actor, he has a presence and as a female I think he's very attractive. That's what we look for in an actor. Do we need to hear about all of the behind the scenes bickering that goes on anyway? Come on now, every show has this kind of stuff going on and I can only imagine some of the "hot-headed" comments made. They are all under a lot of pressure and some handle in inappropriately. The quality of this show, this wonderful show, will be diminished without IW. To be honest, I probably won't watch it now. I'm so fed up with interference by the tabloids - they continually destroy our enjoyment on tv shows/movies, etc. by picking up on stuff and bringing it to our attention. I for one am sick of it! I hope IW will land on a show that I can watch. I really think most viewers feel as I do about this stuff.
silly abc ! firing a man for no good reason.. and more silly is this baby Knight << i use to like him
I agree with who cares above. There is a need to seperate peoples lifestyles from the series. You cant have a F---T featuring as a guy desperately wanting action from a vivacious co star and then watch CNN later and hear he is advocating gay lifestyles. Thats just wrong. And secondly another anonymous writer wrote something about Isaiah assuming that his departure was as a result of being black. There is no reason why he shouldnt think that and why he should not air his views about that. You cant use an analogy of him commenting on gays as the same on a comment on the N word as both have varying history's and relevance. You cant be proud to be gay but you can be proud to be black so that has to be noted.
Besides, you choose to be gay but you dont choose to be black. Being gay is your lifestyle choice based on your experiences but one is born black. One didnt tick a box and say i wanna try that! If you dont say you are gay no-one will know most of the time "as in what we thought of Omally" but you are very right that we know that Washington is black so the merits of the case are very different. If the man apologised and went to counselling and was repentant then that was the right thing to ride on. As it is now we now expect that anyone who uses the N--g_ word or the F---t word should be removed from whatever show without apology or counselling. Lets go hard and fast. Thats the way!!Not so?
Don Imus apologized and he got fired. Michael Richards will be lucky if he works again and he's apologized. Should they be excused under the idea of "free speech"? I don't think insulting someone's race, religon, sex, sexual orientation.. should be excused as "free speech". If Washington doesn't want someone calling him the "N" word, then he should give the same consideration to Knight and the "F" word. I believe if you want respect, you have to give respect.
Mr. Washington.. you weren't fired for being black.. you were fired for being a jerk.
When a person can't vocally express their opinion without threat of prejudice, this nation should no longer recognize the "freedom of speech." I think Mr. Washington was speaking out, because he is as sick of seeing these crazed individuals walking around as I am. Homosexuality is a sin and if you are living that kind of lifestyle, you should get your life right.
There is not many series out there today that potrays a smart, intelligent, young black male. I have watched IW for quite sometime. Grey's ratings will not escalate by any chance without him. Someone please hurry and grab him up for a role because he has what it takes to be a good actor.
I think that Mr. Washington should've kept his homophic comments to himself. He apologized did his PSA,etc. He should have protected his job and acted like a professional. He got fire and the public will get over it, they will give an opportunity to another actor that will probably be more grateful that the have a part in a great television program.
Its just so annoying when certain racial or religious or sexual groups think that they have the "trademark to tragedy"
Personally i think some people just have too much time on their hands and are too sensitive.
If i was a homosexual and someone called me a "F----T" i will be like " yeah whatever" and move on with my life.
Comeon, we have bigger problems in the world.
Leave the poor guy alone.
Whatever happened to Free Speech... This sucks, and i am going to boycott the show because Isaiah Washington got fired.
You know, it's kind of funny how everyone's trying to make this out to be more than what it really is...a guy called someone a really ugly name...then he realized that it wasn't so nice (to the other person or for his career is not ours to judge), and he apologized. What else could he do? Okay, this is America---I thought we still had the right to say what we want---and if we realize that our words are going to hurt someone or ourselves--we have the right to try to soften the blow and make ammends...can you fault a guy for trying to fix an almost "unfixable" situation? I mean, really! Mr. Washington has just as much a right to say what's on his mind as the next person---as ugly as his words may be. My problem is that when he tried to fix it with the only tools that he has in this society---a public declaration that his words were hurtful and that he wants to get over his hate (whatever that means), people still want to see him go down in flames. What gives? Do we not understand? HE TRIED TO FIX IT PEOPLE!! That means that all further comments about what he said and how bad it was and all the other stuff is irrelevant!! But after all, this is America and if you want to say something utterly stupid---it's your right... just remember that when you try to censor him...
Is discrimination limited to Homosexuals, Blacks and Jews?
People come up with such elaborate explainations how discrimination and using the F of the N work is aweful, and rightly so but what about the discrimination based on peoples religion? How aboue the discrimination against muslims? That is an acceptable norm of sorts???
Funny. if you don't agree with the gays your "Homophobic".
I don't agree with them pushing their lifestyle onto others or telling ME I HAVE TOO except it. Sorry No can do and never will.
I'm so tired of the political correctness crowd. T.R. Knight needs to have his balls drop. If your gonna flaunt your lifestyle in peoples faces who are so SICK of the Gay agenda be prepared for the backlash.
I'm sorry for all of those who were offened by Mr Washingtons words. But it is a choice to be offended. If we are truley tolerant then we will be tolerant of other people being intolerant. This is America. Should we all try to be nice to each other yes but we are allowed to say things what we think.(freedom of speach) Don't get so upset over what other people say. So you don't agree with him. You don't have to like him or agree with him.
Jules Gilbert... ignorant, racist, sexist, intolerant, homophobic are all words to describe YOU. It is NOT normal or natual or acceptable for us as a people to hate others because they are different. It is taught and learned behavior. We are all HUMAN... some wear glasses, some don't... is it OKAY for people to hate people who wear glasses if you don't? NO. It's ignorant.
As a society we need to STOP tolerating intolerance on all levels, not just homophobia. It's not acceptable. We're supposed to be the smartest animals on the planet and yet we coninously act the most ignorant.
There is no excuse for intolerance... quoting scripture doesn't make is wrong... saying it's natural for a man to be homophobic doesn't make it so... it's just ignorant words from a very bigoted, ignorant bleep of a human being. I am embarrassed to be the same species as you.
You can not make amends for bigotry. If someone on the show had called him the dreaded "N" word, there would have been tons of pressure from black groups and community leaders like Al Sharpton to have that person fired... and deservedly so.
There is no excuse for sexism, racism, bigotry or hatred. Anyone who makes excuses for people who demonstrate proclivities towards hate should... as one person intelligently and succinctly stated above... GET A LIFE.
I'm glad he was fired from the show. Frankly, he got what he deserved. He demonstrated not just ONCE but TWICE he is ignorant and bigoted. Therapy, and apologizing are nice gestures but not enough. Actions have consequences. Hate in our society has been tolerated for far too long. As a member of a group that has experienced hate and violence, he should have been more tolerant and not acted so ignorantly.
Again, if someone on the show had used the "N" word to describe him TWICE I would almost guarantee they would have been fired within an episode from the sheer pressure. The fact he lasted the rest of the season was generous enough. I will miss the character, but NOT the actor.
Molly..Sadly, most people seem to think what IW did was ok. I'm guessing they haven't been a victim of racial\gay discrimination or had someone call them out in public. Seems that respect for others has gone out the window. When a person puts themself in the spotlight of the camera's simply expect anything. Not that it's accepted or okay with what IW did. Trust, he wasn't the first and won't be the last. T.R. will need to man up some and get used to it. Again. Not that he should have to, however, society is full of IGNANT Azz people.
is this a foxnews forum?
really? you people see NOTHING wrong with calling someone a f----t?
so if one of his co-workers had called IW a n----r, that would be okay? because he's black and he should just accept that, well, that's a name people give to blacks?
you're all digusting.
do you think abc gives two s---s if ten of you stop watching the show because IW is gone?
surprise! THEY DON'T.
did you ever stop to think that the rest of the cast no longer wants to work with him?
besides, the show sucks anyway. maybe you all should get over yourselves.
Some people seem to think that Isiah just used the word FA**OT as a slur and that people should get over it. I would really like to see what people would think should T.R. had called him a NI**ER as a slur. not once as a mistake but twice and to spice it up. Have T.R. do it at the BET awards! How quick would people get over it then?
We've all had said things that would offend others.
First of all I absolutly love the show! I think that Isaah Washington plays an amazing character and is an amazing actor. We all make mistakes and say things we don't mean. We're human. Not that what he said wasn't wrong, but he did apologize and admit to his mistake. I think that he should not be fired for what he said and I truly believe that the show will suffer greatly without him as part of the cast.
Has anyone noticed that we are not required (or even supposed to!,) like/value others equally. And indeed, it's built-in that men (of which I am one,) dislike gays. This is perfectly natural, for so many reasons. And not only do I dislike them but I noticed that the God of the Bible took time to say that he hate's them too, So I'd say that IW is in very good company.
A friend of my wife is a lawyer and mentioned something that Mr. Washington should know, (basically, he might have recourse; I don't know, but I do hope that he speaks to an entertainment lawyer right away.)
Of course no one knows the future, but if IW gets some professional career advice from someone who has been around the industry for sometime, this incident just might turn into a real boost for him.
On the other hand, not many actors who are known to be gays are around for very long; (Yes their are lot's of gays in Hollywood but most of them who are in front of the camera are not "out", whereas T. R. Knight is.) Exit TRK?
Right now IW should be talking to the wisest people he can find -- and this won't be the first time the God of the Bible takes sides. People who think he's distant or out to lunch have been watching too much television!

i think the show sucks: the female characters are getting weaker, acting like insecure teenagers instead of the strong professional women that they're supposed to be. great role models! i only watch it because eveything else is on rerun. sadly, any hope of seeing k. heigl fired have been dashed by the success of "knocked-up". the spin-off show sucks even more.
