Bobbed and beautiful! Cate Blanchett debuted a short, chin-length haircut on the red carpet at the 88th annual Academy Awards at the Dolby Theatre in L.A. on Sunday, February 28.
“I based Cate’s look off inspiration I received from Diana Vreeland‘s The Modern Woman,” celebrity hairstylist Robert Vetica for Wella Professionals exclusively told Us Weekly. “The book contains these really extensive images and shapes that are reminiscent with Cate’s final look.”
And that final look? A whopping six inches shorter than when he started. “I cut her hair at the jaw-line to create this really modern, chic look,” explained Vetica, who also styled Star Wars: The Force Awakens‘ Daisy Ridley for the ceremony.
To give the cut a bit of texture, the hair pro spritzed Wella Professionals EIMI Stay Essential Finishing Spray onto Blanchett’s tresses.
“Cate has an extremely regal presence on the red carpet and this look is very fitting for her,” he added.
As for her Oscars ensemble, Blanchett rocked a sky-blue Armani Privé dress with floral embellishments, accessorized with Tiffany & Co. jewels and Roger Vivier shoes.
