Crazy beautiful!
If his acting is just as incredible as his makeover, then Eddie Redmayne may need to make room on his shelf for a second Oscar. The Theory of Everything actor drastically transforms into a woman for his next drama The Danish Girl — and the result is stunning.
In the first released photo, the British hunk trades in his short locks and scruff for a wavy wig and red lipstick. He also dons a light shade of blush and mascara, and wears a mustard yellow dress.
Redmayne, 33, plays transgender pioneer Einar Wegener/Lili Elbe in the Tom Hooper-directed film. It’s set in the 1920s and chronicles Wegener’s relationship with his wife Gerda Waud (Alicia Vikander). Wegener, a painter, was asked to dress in women’s clothes after one of Waud’s models didn’t show up. Wegener obliged, and later transformed into Lili.
“We’re looking at everything from a feminine perspective,” Redmayne recently told The Daily Mail of the true story. “I think it’s the most sensitive role I have played.”
“He’s on a strict diet and has been noticeably thinner,” a source added to The Sun newspaper. “He kept it under wraps during his promotional duties and Oscar campaign.”
Redmayne previously portrayed Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything opposite Felicity Jones. The actor picked up his first Oscar ever in the Best Actor category for the role at the 87th Academy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 22.
