Uma Thurman’s Makeup Artist Explains Her New Look

Uma Thurman attends "The Slap" premiere party on Feb. 9, 2015.
Uma Thurman's longtime makeup artist Troy Surratt explained her nearly unrecognizable new look at the Slap premiere on Monday, Feb. 9.

Don't underestimate the power of makeup!

Uma Thurman's longtime makeup artist Troy Surratt is opening up about his client's head-turning look at The Slap New York City premiere on Monday, Feb. 9. Shortly after the veteran actress, 44, hit the red carpet, the Internet yelled "surgery!" but is that the real explanation behind her new look?

For starters, Surratt switched up the Kill Bill star's usual look of warm blush and an ample coating of black mascara. "We experimented with the makeup," Surratt told Refinery29.com on Feb. 10. "We did a much stronger brow and a bold lip for a French sort of feel."

Surratt credits his handy makeup tools (not surgery or Botox) for creating the 44-year-old star's lifted appearance. "The way I shaded her eyebrows with the pencil, I created an uplifting effect," Surratt explained.

"Then, I finished with a shimmering, silky-beige shadow on her lids, and went with no mascara at all." He added, "Sort of a reaction against all the fake lashes we've been seeing on the red carpet."

A source confirmed to Us Weekly that the dramatic change is due to brush strokes, not needles. "It was a fun makeup choice, something totally different, that's all."
