Breaking News: Ashlee Simpson-Wentz Files for Divorce from Pete Wentz

After nearly three years, Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz want out of their marriage.
"After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to file for divorce," a rep for the stars tells UsMagazine.com in a statement.

"We remain friends and deeply committed and loving parents to our son Bronx, whose happiness and well-being remains our number one priority. We ask that everyone honor our privacy as we navigate this next phase of our lives."

Citing "irreconcilable differences," Ashlee, 26, filed papers in an L.A. court Wednesday, documents at TMZ confirm. In the filing, she asks for joint legal and primary physical custody of Bronx -- and seeks spousal and child support.
After embarking on a romance in late 2006, the singer and actress wed Fallout Boy rocker Wentz, 31, in May 2008 -- when she was about 3 months pregnant with their son Bronx, now 2.

"They've been unhappy," an insider close to the couple tells UsMagazine.com. "They're living two separate lives."

Back in June 2009 -- just 13 months into their union -- Us Weekly reported serious friction and combative fights between the newlyweds, who struggled to adjust to their new roles as spouses and parents. "They fight constantly," a source told Us at the time. "She is seriously considering leaving him....They're in different places."

41The problem here is her dad interferes and they got married because she was pregnant. They got knocked up and Papa Joe wasn't about to have his first grandchild be born a bastard so he loaded up his Texas shotgun and told Pete was he had to do. So they "raced" to the alter and they have money so they were able to pull off a real, full wedding in a short time. Ashlee's a horrible singer, Pete hasn't sung in forever (what happened to Fall Out Boy anyway?) he was at his peek in 2006 then just fell off the planet and became Mr. Simpson, bro in law of Jessica. This is just a typical shotgun marriage gone south. There is NOTHING shocking about that. I'm shocked over other shotgun marriages in Hollywood that are STILL together.
Actually, Celine, Pete is pretty successful. He is in a new band, runs a clothing line and a record label and owns a couple of bars. Overall, he is the primary bread-winner in that couple. That said, I am really sad to hear this. I thought they made a cute couple and am still hoping they will manage to reconcile.
I don't feel that just because you have children with someone, you need to rush down the aisle. I have 2 kids with my children's father and we aren't married, and are still going strong for 4 years now. I agree with Tammara, how long you've been together before you have children doesn't and shouldn't matter. It's all up to the two of them whether or not they can make it work. There are celebrities who find a way, but the vast majority choose to cop out and file for divorce after divorce. If you don't feel like you want to be with that person for the rest of your life, why walk down the aisle? Just to have some elaborate ceremony to show off to the world, only to split a few years later? People are ruining the sanctity of marriage. I do not believe in divorce AT ALL, marriage should be as the vows state: 'til death do us part.
Ashlee is asking for spousal and child support, does this guy have any money? The reports say she was tired of his erratic behavior, I'm shocked a rock singer that behaves erratically, unbelievable. Is this chick serious?
Its funny how there are lots of comments about timing being an issue as to why their marriage didn't last "they weren't together long enough before marriage," "they had a child too soon" all that is utter nonsense. You can't time everything in life and if you try it doesn't mean the outcome will mean "Happily Ever After". Jada & Will Smith married when she was pregnant & they're still going on strong. At the end of the day, whether you get married after a month of dating its based on those two people making the marriage work it hasn't nothing to do with whether you dated for four years & then got married because those marriages fail as well. We have no idea what went on in their marriage so who are we to judge?
Really, two immature youngsters with no real education or life experience get together, have a child called Bronx, poor thing, and now, no surprise, they seperate, and this is worth so many emotional mails? I do not even know what his achievments could be and isn't she just a little sister from a likewise meaningless and not-so-bright girl?

@ Natalie, I agree with randy, too many of your kind have no regard for anything. You have sex with a guy, or two, or three or? get pregnant because you have no real responsibility, and your kid pays. Too many of you have say 3 kids, 3 different dads, and the guy your with has kids by different women. Sometimes DNA is needed to even know who the dad is. It has nothing to do with the 1950's or 21st century, it has to do with being something more then someones bootie call. Selfish.
Assuming these two qualify as "celebrities", a little over 2 1/2 years of marriage for a celebrity couple is standard operating procedure, so, there's nothing surprising about this at all! Maybe on their next marriages, they'll be able to eke out over 3 years!
I agree w. Jes Gibson...not you Randy! You dont have to date for 5 years, be married for 4 to have a child and support and love it. Having blended families is normal these days. Maybe you need to be welcomed to the 21st century! Not everyone sees things like you do in your 1950's fashion!

I am not sure why most people judge so quickly... we all live our private lives with many closet skeletons... and yet are jumping on the chance to put down a young couple (in the lime light) making a private decision..good for them for deciding quickly in life in stead of after 20 yrs of misery... I have been married 31yrs but am married to a very tolerant and stable man....unlike my self lol I hope the best for you both
Yeah, well, surprise, surprise! We're having a baby and getting married...well...when it's not for the right reasons, they just cut their losses with the quickness. Or did the contract say at least 3 years?
@ Jes Gibson I find YOU offensive. I live in this century where many still get married, where many practice BIRTH CONTROL because they are sensible responsible people. No need for anyone to to rush into having a child, the biggest decision in life is to bring another life into this world, and to do so without thought is selfish. HELLO sex leads to babies, and BIRTH CONTROL or the morning after pill etc. USUALLY DOES NOT

Randy: You raise a good point. I strongly believe that folks should have a couple of years of marriage under their belt before starting a family. A good 4 years before starting a family to ensure that the honeymoon phase is over and reality truly has set in and that the person they are married to will truly be a great parent.
I would never want to be a celebrity..simply because of the fact that it seems like they can never make a marriage work. I just don't get it!!
