Abs-olute beauty! Gwyneth Paltrow flaunted her totally toned abs in a navy sports bra on the May cover of Self magazine and urged women to embrace their sexuality along with motherhood.
The Goop founder mused about how hard it is to integrate those parts of her life. “We have this idea that you can’t be a mother and a businesswoman and like to have sex!” she told the mag. “Like, ‘Gwyneth has sex? Really?’ It doesn’t seem to go together. But I think it’s important, as mothers and as women contributing to society in what way we each are, that our true sexuality doesn’t get lost or put aside.”
While doing it all isn’t easy, the Oscar-winning actress has come to master the juggling act now at age 43. “It’s a fantastic age,” she said. “You can still find yourself at a party at 3 a.m., but you also know enough about who you are and how that informs the choices you make. It’s like, I’m good! I’m not going to strive to be anyone else or please anybody else.”
The It’s All Easy cookbook author credits her 11-year-old daughter, Apple, for keeping her young. “My daughter has the most beautiful feminine energy, and it’s cool to be around that,” she said. “It keeps me in the spirit of youth and growth.”
Paltrow makes sure to carve out quality time with her children (she and ex Chris Martin also share a son, Moses, 10), and that means putting away the electronics to stay in the moment. “If I make my kids something delicious and we sit down to eat it, and I put my phone away and I really listen, that is such money in the bank,” she said. “Everyone is suffering from this sense of ‘I have to do it all and I have to do it perfectly.’ It’s all my friends, all my colleagues: We try to do everything to such a high standard. And I’m like, Where did we get this from? Because I’m f–king exhausted!”
Paltrow, who split from Martin in 2014, is now dating Glee and Scream Queens cocreator Brad Falchuk. But she still maintains a close relationship with Martin for the sake of the kids. “It’s like we’re still a family, but not a couple,” the Iron Man actress recently told Marie Claire Australia. “I think we are better as friends than we were [married].”
