Kelly Osbourne: I Call Myself a “Former Fat Person”

Kelly Osbourne might seem like a pretty confident person, but in an interview in the May issue of Glamour, the daughter of Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne reveals she hasn’t had an easy time learning to love herself.

Growing up, Osbourne, 27, says she was bullied by her peers for being overweight. “I grew up on the road with my father…but I came from a very small village, where everyone called me ‘Kelly Smelly with the Big Belly Whose Dad’s on the Telly’,” the star recalls.

Even today, she admits, her peers’ cruel taunts have a lasting impact on her self-image. “I call myself a FFP: former fat person,” Osbourne shares. “And when you’re an FFP, you will always see in yourself what people used to bully you for.”

Though she debuted a dramatically slimmed-down shape after her 2009 Dancing With the Stars stint, the Fashion Police host admits she won’t ever think of herself as a “skinny” girl. But, she adds, “I have put a lot of hard work into my body over the years.” By learning to take care of herself through exercise and proper nutrition, Osbourne says she’s also “really learned” to feel comfortable in her own skin.

Also key to the reality star’s success? Tuning out harsh critics. “If you’re still hanging around people who are going to put you down, you need to stop and reevaluate your friends and move on,” Osbourne asserts. “You don’t need those kinds of people in your life.”

The former Osbournes star took heat last summer herself when she called Christina Aguilera “fat” during a Fashion Police segment. Despite her anti-bullying message, Osbourne says she sticks by what she said–and explains she was only giving the Voice coach a taste of her own medicine.

“She called me fat for years,” Osbourne explains. “One night…I said, ‘F–k you. Now you’re fat too.’ I didn’t say I wasn’t fat. I said, ‘Now you know how it feels.’ And I’m sorry, but I stand by that.”
