Kourtney Kardashian on Attachment Parenting: “I’m Sure All the Family Thinks I’m Insane”

Kourtney Kardashian shares her thoughts on attachment parenting son Mason, 4, and daughter Penelope, 19 months

Kourtney Kardashian is a very hands-on mom. As a proponent of the somewhat controversial attachment-parenting philosophy, the reality star and mom of two, 34, lets son Mason, 4, and daughter Penelope, 19 months, sleep in a bed with her and boyfriend Scott Disick.

"It's what came naturally to me; I didn't plan it," she says in the April issue of Redbook magazine. "When I had Mason, I just felt really attached to him and wanted to bring him everywhere. He ended up sleeping with me, and I breastfed for 14 months."

"They go to sleep in their rooms but end up in my bed, sometimes within minutes," she explains, adding that it can be a "challenge" to find time alone with Disick. "It's…something we talk about constantly," she shares. "Mostly there are times each night when the kids are in their own rooms, and sometimes it even lasts all night. Every night is different."

Speaking about her parenting style at a Kardashian Kids collection event at New York City's SoHo House on Monday, March 24, Kardashian said her approach is different than her mom's.

"I mean, I have no idea where it came from because I definitely didn't sleep with my parents unless I was sick or something. I don't know, it just kind of grew," she explained. "I wasn't reading attachment parenting books before; it's just what came naturally to me. I think even with different kids, it's different. Each kid needs something different."

She added: "I'm sure all the family thinks I'm insane for having them in the bed and breastfeeding for a long time, but whatever."

Asked whether she'd consider adding another little baby to her brood (and bed!), the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star replied, "I mean, I don't know, I'm so busy right now…I always feel like it's in God's hands, so we'll see, but I love tiny clothes. They're the cutest things in the world and it does make me sad when they get bigger."
