Simon Cowell Feels “Very Paternal,” But Is “Absolutely” Not Changing Diapers

Simon Cowell attends the "One Direction This Is Us" world premiere

Simon Cowell is determined to do daddyhood his own way. The X Factor host, 53, continues to open up about girlfriend Lauren Silverman's pregnancy a month after Us Weekly first broke the news. The acerbic Brit revealed to the Times of London that he and newly divorced Silverman recently saw their very first sonogram — and it's made Cowell uncharacteristically emotional. "You literally see this thing which is now alive moving around," Cowell gushes. "I feel very paternal right now. So I am very happy."

Still, Cowell insists he'll still be the stoic, straight-talking star fans know and love. "I can assure you: I won't go soft."

In a separate interview with the BBC, Cowell added that he's actually a natural with little ones. "I am good with kids because I like kids. I really do like them and I listen to them," the former American Idol judge reasoned. "Once I got used to [becoming a father] I did get excited. I think I will be a good dad!"

Cowell and NYC socialite Silverman began their relationship while she was still married to Cowell's friend, Andrew Silverman. The estranged spouses settled their divorce Aug. 14 after 10 years of marriage. Cowell and 14-weeks-pregnant Silverman recently reunited for a lavish vacation on the French Riviera. "They love that they don't have to hide anything anymore," a source told Us.

Once the baby arrives, Cowell told the BBC, he's raring to go –as long as diaper duties fall to someone else. "I'm not doing that, 100% absolutely not going near that!" he told BBC. Of sleep deprivation? "Can't I just get a nanny?"
