The couple made their red carpet debut at the 2016 Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year ceremony at NYC’s Barclays Center on Monday, December 12. They looked happy as they posed for the cameras, and the 24-year-old tight end put his arm around the gymnast, 22, who stunned in a red textured dress.
The pair’s romance sparked after the Olympics, when Raisman was doing an interview with Yahoo Sports about how to date her, and Underwood sent in a video asking if she’d like to go out with him sometime. The pair already had mutual friends, since Raisman’s fellow Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson is married to Underwood's former Oakland Raiders teammate Andrew East.
In the video, Underwood congratulated the Final Five member on winning the team gold medal, individual all-around silver medal and the floor exercise silver medal. “Just want to congratulate you on all your success in the competitions and representing the U.S.A. over there. I know I’ve been following along. My roommates, my teammates, everybody here is super proud of you,” Underwood said. “You know, if you’re ever in San Jose and want to go on a double date with me and Andrew and Shawn, let me know.”
Raisman accepted the date invite, saying, “He’s very cute. I would go on a date with him.” They later tweeted at each other about their meet-up. “@Colt3FIVE thanks for the sweet video…. Looking forward to meeting you :),” the Olympian wrote, while Underwood responded, “Anytime! Looking forward to meeting you too. Safe travels back, see you soon!"
