Sarah Palin's getting a new son-in-law! Bristol Palin is engaged to her boyfriend, Sgt. Dakota Meyer. The bride-to-be announced the happy news via Instagram on Saturday, Mar. 14.
"Truly the luckiest girl in the world, cannot wait to marry this man!!!!" Palin, 24, captioned an Instagram pic of the couple kissing. In a second photo, she gave a closer look at her gorgeous cushion-cut diamond engagement ring.
Meyer, a U.S. Marine vet, received the Medal of Honor in 2009. "I'm definitely the luckiest guy ever to be able to spend the rest of my life with @bsmp2," the 26-year-old captioned his own Instagram pic of the future spouses. "#shesaidyes."
Sarah Palin gushed about the engagement to Us Weekly. "Our families couldn't be happier for Bristol and Dakota! We’re honored to welcome Dakota into our family. He’s an American hero and patriot whose service to our country – like all his fellow Medal of Honor recipients – has been above and beyond the call of duty; but even more important is he’s a good and kind man who loves Bristol and Tripp, and is loved by them," she told Us in a statement.
"They met last year when he was in Alaska to film an episode of Amazing America, and even then it was noticed that just as we like to describe Bristol as 'an old soul' wise beyond her years, the same also applies to Dakota," she continued. "(A clear demonstration is the fact that he flew up North last week to ask both Todd and Bristol’s grandfather, Chuck, Sr., for her hand in marriage!"
Meyer proposed during the Rascal Flatts Vegas Riot! show at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino's The Joint on Friday. Rascal Flatts frontman Gary LeVox brought them up on stage, thanked Meyer for his service, and dedicated "Bless the Broken Road" to them. LeVox revealed to the audience that Meyer popped the question backstage just moments before.
Days earlier, Palin shared a sweet photo of Meyer and her 6-year-old son Tripp, whom she had with ex fiance Levi Johnston. "My boys," she gushed. (Palin and Johnston were often photographed supporting former Alaska governor Sarah Palin during her vice presidential campaign in 2008.)
This will be the first marriage for Bristol. She and Johnston split in 2010, just weeks after announcing their second engagement. Johnston later welcomed daughter Breeze Beretta with his girlfriend Sunny Oglesby in September 2012. The couple married the following month.
