This is not what you came for. Turns out, Calvin Harris’ new song with John Newman, “Ole,” isn’t about Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston after all, contrary to an earlier report from TMZ. According to multiple sources close to the producer/DJ and the 1989 singer, the track was recorded well before Hiddleswift happened.
“People are just making assumptions to get attention for a song,” a Swift source tells Us Weekly. “There’s no way it could be about Tom.” A source close to Harris also confirms to Us that the track was recorded months ago.
“It has nothing to do with Tom and Taylor,” the insider says, pointing out that it’s primarily a Newman song, and that Harris merely appears on it.
That said, the lyrics still make for a pretty good breakup song — just not about Swift and Harris.
As previously reported, the track was rumored to be about the “Wildest Dreams” singer’s relationship with her ex, from her new beau’s point of view.
“I see online that you begun to be a good girl and take trips with your boyfriend. Being attentive, continue to pretend …” one lyric reportedly reads, according to TMZ. “You’ve hidden my name in your phone so you can call me to tell me you’ve been going through hell. Left him alone and you booked in a hotel.” (Hiddleston and Swift first ignited rumors of a romance after being flirty together at the Met Gala in May. They were spotted kissing just a couple of weeks after she and Harris split.)
TMZ claimed The track also plays off the name of Hiddleston’s Thor character, Loki. “Low-key you won’t tell none of your friends about me,” the site quotes.
Swift and Hiddleston most recently packed on the PDA while traveling around Rome and at her annual 4th of July bash in Rhode Island on Monday, July 4.
