Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger were spending time apart well before the “Complicated” singer announced they were separating on Wednesday, Sept. 2. According to an eyewitness, Kroeger partied at club E11EVEN in Miami, with another woman on Aug. 18.
“Chad came in with a woman and a security guard. He was down in the party pit by the stage, definitely out in clear, plain view — not in the private back VIP areas,” a clubgoer tells Us Weekly of the Nickelback frontman, who ordered a bottle of Belvedere and stayed at the club until about 5 a.m. “He was saying that there aren’t that many places for him to go in Miami, he was happy to be there and be chill. He and the girl had a great time, they were dancing.”
According to Lavigne, 30, their split — after just two years of marriage — is an amicable one.
“It is with [a] heavy heart that Chad and I announce our separation today. Through not only the marriage, but the music as well, we've created many unforgettable moments. We are still, and forever will be, the best of friends, and will always care deeply for each other,” she announced on Instagram on Wednesday. “To all our family, friends and fans, thank you sincerely for the support.”
Us Weekly was first to report that the now-exes were having issues one year ago, in September 2014. “It’s over,” a source told Us at the time. “He has been going around L.A. telling people that they are divorcing.”
Lavigne, who has been battling lyme disease, married the rocker, 40, in a lavish wedding in July 2013. The “When You’re Gone” songstress was previously married to Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley from 2006 to 2010. Whibley, ironically, just recently remarried this past weekend and said “I do” to girlfriend Ariana Cooper in Bel Air, Calif.
