Channing Tatum Says Beyonce Texted Him After ‘Lip Sync Battle’: See What She Wrote

Put your hands up! Channing Tatum opened up to Ellen DeGeneres on Thursday, January 28, about performing alongside the one and only Beyoncé on Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle in early January, and said Bey reached out to him after her cameo.

“That is the first time I ever met her — right there,” the Magic Mike XXL hunk, 35, recalled on the talk show. “I won’t even tell you what I had to do to essentially get her assistant’s phone number. Or text her. I was texting her. I didn’t even have the intention of her coming.”

While Tatum’s wife, Jenna Dewan Tatum, had secured Paula Abdul to join her onstage for the friendly competition, the actor figured he wouldn’t have access to the real Beyoncé in time to bring her out. “I was like, Hmm, who can I bring out? I know Beyoncé’s not gonna come. So I wanted to bring a cardboard cutout of Beyoncé just to be funny, and then ultimately I ended up having to meet Beyoncé [while] doing Beyoncé.”

During the memorable performance, the Hateful Eight actor took to the stage in a blonde wig and bustier-style top, and artfully delivered the dance to “Run the World (Girls)” with Queen Bey by his side. “That was definitely the most terrifying thing I’ve ever done,” he told DeGeneres.

The two didn’t even rehearse. “You know she exists, but you never see her until all the sudden, you’re like, It happened, wait, that was her, right? And then you always know she’s somewhere in the world [and] can reach out and touch you.”

Following their performance, Bey very briefly interacted with the Tatums. “That was it,” the actor recalled. “I said hi and she goes, ‘Hey, that was really funny. See ya!'”

However, the “XO” songstress, whose celebrity besties include Gwyneth Paltrow, Kelly Rowland and Oprah Winfrey, followed up with Tatum via text. “She was like, ‘Hey, I would love to meet you guys and hang out when you’re not looking like me [like it’s] so terrifying.'”
