A romantic at heart and in practice! Ed Sheeran played a big role in the touching lead-up to his pal and Rixton singer Jake Roche’s very public proposal on Sunday, July 19.
The “Thinking Out Loud” singer was performing at Manchester Arena that evening during star-studded pop show Key103 when he invited Roche, 22, to come on stage with his girlfriend Jesy Nelson, of British girl group Little Mix.
There, Roche dropped down to one knee to pop the question to Nelson, 24.
“A year ago today I met her at manchester arena, so it was only right, with a little help from my friend, that this happened,” Roche captioned a photo he posted on Instagram of the precious moment. “Best day of my life.”
“Travelled 5 hours to sing our favorite song on his day off,” he continued. “I will never ever be able to repay you. Love you pal.”
In the shot, Roche can be seen with a happy expression on his face while Sheeran, 24, looks on in the background.
Nelson, for her part, was thrilled about the proposal and shared her own excitement on Instagram.
“I cannot believe what has just happened!” she wrote. “The most surreal moment of my life and everyone that I love most was there to share it with us! I feel like the luckiest girl in the world rite now.”
Sheeran’s own love life made headlines recently when fellow British star Ellie Goulding denied that the pair were ever an item.
When fans speculated that Sheeran’s hit “Don’t” was written about her, she clarified that it was not, because the two had never dated.
“I did go on a few dates with Niall [Horan] but I was never in a relationship with Ed [Sheeran],” the singer, 38, told Elle UK. “I have absolutely no idea where that came from and why it was turned into such a big thing.”
