Flip or Flop star Christina El Moussa was photographed for the first time since confirming her shocking split from husband Tarek El Moussa.
The HGTV star, 33, was seen shopping at a local mall in Yorba Linda, California, Tuesday, December 13. She kept it casual in a black long-sleeved T-shirt that said, “Pink champagne can’t complain," leggings, sandals and sunglasses and carried a Louis Vuitton bag.
On Monday news broke that the couple, who married in May 2009, had called it quits on their relationship after a terrifying gun incident earlier this year. They told Us Weekly in statement that they’re focused on co-parenting their two children, Taylor, 6, and Brayden, 15 months.
"Like many couples, we have had challenges in our marriage,” the statement read. "We had an unfortunate misunderstanding about six months ago and the police were called to our house in an abundance of caution. There was no violence and no charges were filed. We chose to get counseling to sort out our relationship. Together, we have decided to separate while we reevaluate the future of our marriage. During this process, we are committed to our kids and being the best parents we can be. We will continue to work through this process civilly and cooperatively, and plan to continue our professional life together.”
Back in May, 11 deputies were called to the stars' home in response to a “possibly suicidal male with a gun,” the Orange County Sheriff’s Department tells Us. An eyewitness told police that he saw Tarek “run out of his back door, jump over his back fence and walk northbound into the hiking trails of the Chino Hills State Park.” Christina went back inside the house and was “crying and shaking,” the witness said. Christina’s friend, who was at the home during the incident, told police that she saw Tarek grab a handgun from his safe before running outside.
Tarek later told authorities “he had no intention of hurting himself.” He claimed that he brought the gun with him “for safety because of mountain lions and rattlesnakes in the area,” the Orange County Sheriff’s Department tells Us. When deputies entered the real estate agents’ home, Tarek agreed to relinquish five guns they had in the house.
Despite the explosive incident, the former couple still plan to work together professionally on Flip or Flop. Christina has continued to share photos of Tarek on Instagram since May.
