Former NFL Star Antonio Armstrong, Wife Allegedly Killed by Son, 16

Former Miami Dolphins linebacker Antonio Armstrong and his wife, Dawn, were shot and killed at their home in Houston on Friday, July 29, NBC affiliate KPRC reports. Their 16-year-old son has been charged with murder as a juvenile and is being questioned by authorities.

According to NBC, Antonio, 42, and his wife were found around 2 a.m. by police. Dawn was pronounced dead at the scene. The former NFL player was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital and listed in critical condition, but later died from a gunshot wound to the head. The couple’s two other children were at home at the time of the incident, but were unharmed.

“This was an outstanding family. The male of the family was an absolute hardworking breadwinner," local homicide Investigator Jimmy Dodson said, via KPRC. “He was an associate pastor in the area church. He's a great guy. The mother was apparently a great mother, according to family members. Like I said, it was kind of the all-American family."

According to authorities, there was no forced entry and no history of domestic violence. They have not released the name of the couple’s son because he is a minor, and the motive of the shooting is still unknown.

Antonio was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 1995 and later played for the Miami Dolphins and St. Louis Rams. He retired in 2002.
