Fran Drescher Married: Actress Weds E-Mail Inventor Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai

Shiva Ayyadurai and Fran Drescher were married this past weekend.

A fairy tale for Fran! Happily Divorced actress Fran Drescher was happily married on Sunday, Sept. 7.

The Nanny alum, 56, said "I do" to her scientist love, Dr. Shiva Ayyadurai, who is widely credited as the inventor of e-mail. Drescher and Ayyadurai, 50, were first seen together last fall, but had not publicized any plans to tie the knot.

The actress took to Twitter on Sunday evening to share the happy news, posting a photo of herself with her new husband and writing, "Surprise!!!!! We got married!"

Ayyadurai also got in on the social media celebrations, tweeting, "I married my warrior princess @frandrescher who my mom in God's great Heaven sent. Be The Light – Know the Truth  - Find Your Way."

The Bombay-born innovator later added of the ceremony, "We had a wonderful Wedding. The Hindu swamiji did Ganesha, Murugan and Lakshmi mantras. Very auspicious." He holds the patent for email after creating the program in his teens. 

This is the second marriage for Drescher, who was wed to her high school sweetheart Peter Marc Jacobson from 1978 to 1999. Years later, she found love again in Ayyadurai.

"I was speaking on sages and scientists — in fact, talking about innovation and the fact that we need to more universally look at the models of innovation, and Fran heard my talk and we fell in love, and we've been together since that talk," the trailblazer told The Huffington Post last month. "Every day is a celebration with Fran. Every day is almost a romantic hangout with her. We're always laughing, always enjoying ourselves."
