Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Star Janet Hubert Slams "Egomaniac" Will Smith

There's a reason Janet Hubert wasn't part of the recent Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion: she can't stand Will Smith.

"There will never be a reunion as I will never do anything with an a--hole like Will Smith," Hubert, 55, snipes to TMZ. "He is still an egomaniac and has not grown up."

(Smith was recently photographed with former costars Tatyana Ali, Karyn Parsons, Alfonso Riberio and James Avery at a charity event. Hubert and several other cast members, including Joseph Marcell, were not present.)
Hubert blames Smith, 44, for her 1993 mid-series departure from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air; she was replaced by actress Daphne Reid. "This constant reunion will never ever happen in my lifetime unless there is an apology," Hubert says. "He doesn't know the word."

Smith has refuted Hubert's claims that he was responsible for her firing, once telling an Atlanta radio station: "She's mad now but she's been mad all along. She said once, 'I've been in the business for 10 years and this snotty-nosed punk comes along and gets a show.' No matter what, to her I'm just the AntiChrist."

Weeeell, I guess I'll chime in: First, one look at how Will's kids behave tells you she's right. They are smug, egomaniacal and have a sense of entitlement. So, yeah, I totally believe it. Second, to Amer Sky-Rogers who commented on 12-28 at 9:22: If that picture is you, trust when I say the things you criticize about her and the stand she was trying to make is something you just can't understand. It's risky business to be sure and she obviously lost the battle, but they are honorable and necessary principles she was trying to make a stand for. As a white woman, you can't understand. Finally, Theresa Desimone-Bollman, who commented on 12-28 at 8:05 a.m. hit the nail on the head.
Well after this I watched a LENGTHY interview with Janet Hubert. She seemed to have had a lot of issues going on during that time, being let go/fired then having her son and her husband divorcing her. The thing was she went on about how the WRITERS would have something written and she would tell them "OH no, NO black woman would EVER stand for that" and that she demanded that they change things because no black woman would EVER agree to that. Then she said in one scene they were going to have the Uncle miss the Lamazze class and that Will's Character was flirting with Vanessa William's Character. She said it was disrespectful for this and that and that was NOT how it was going to go down. Then she had that attitude shake of her head. So I can see exactly WHY she was fired, sorry but for one she is a character and for her to be telling the writers how they were going to do something or else. Then for her to make demands because as far as she was concerned she had a responsibility to the black woman......... She went on bad mouthing Hollywood and that ANY ONE WHO IS ANY ONE in Hollywood has sold their soul. She basically said "They may have gotten a piece of me but they did NOT get my soul" She went on about how her being fired affected her health and that then her son was targeted and "Oh no they are not going after my son" that when it started to affect her son that was it. Her son was born in 1993 so how was he being affected. She sounded like a bitter woman who basically killed her own career by being difficult and making demands. If anyone is to blame after reading some of her book and watching that interview it was her. Try another tactic as it was a fail!
It's funny how she attacks Will, when he's the only one who I've yet to see hate on her since she left the show. Wow Janet--I thought I could hold a grudge. I don't pretend to know about the TV business but I do believe that producers/directors and other bigwigs make the choice to fire stars--not other co-stars. And while I do agree that Will (nor his children) are lacking in the confidence area--I've read that YOU are quite the diva to work with as well--Let it go...whatever happened, you're never going to move on being that bitter b/c I can assure you Will is basking in his fame and millions and not giving you a second thought!

Will in may ways is like Oprah. They got lucky. I think they are both ok, but neither has talent to equal the luck they had...and sadly both have egos that suck all the air out of any room they are in. I fell off the couch when OW told Walters, "I always new I was destined for greatness". Hahahaha...oh man.

She has been angry for as long as I can remember. She needs to let it go and move on. I remember a long time ago she said she was fired because the producers of the show believed she was making too many demands. She wanted health insurance included in her contract. They made a lot of money per show. She could have afforded her own insurance policy.

I don't believe this at all. I was watching a show & a fan recognized Will Smith & ask for a picture & Will said yes. He was very polite & nice to the fan. An egomaniac wouldn't have said yes to the fan or even acknowledged the fan. This actress's claim seems fabricated & complete bullshi*. Will Smith is an awesome actor & more famous than her. Jealously seems to have got to her. He's worth millions, she probably doesn't have nearly as much more money & security in her life. I like Will Smith as an actor. Wow, why should he apologize to you? He was the reason the show was created and it was mainly ABOUT him! You were a supporting character not the main character. You were easily replaced. The reason you got fired was because of your unprofessionalism. You probably had a bad attitude because the main star was a teenager, you probably mouthed off once to many times how you were this old and been in the business this long and this punk so so got a job. They probably got tired of hearing it and you got YOURSELF fired. Here is the thing you look like the jerk and you are acting like the a hole!
If anyone's an egomaniac, it's Janet Hubert. She needs to grow up and get over the fact that she was fired. She also needs to apologize to Will for slamming him in public, instead of having the maturity and decency to talk to him about this in private. She is jealous and immature, and she needs to grow up.
