Gwyneth Paltrow would never announce a “conscious uncoupling” again — on Goop, at least. The Oscar winner revealed what she would do differently if she were to announce a split today during a LinkedIn interview on Tuesday, September 6.

Asked if she’d do it the same again, Paltrow, 43, replied, “Not in the same way. It sort of wouldn’t be appropriate now. It is a much bigger business, and I’m not sure that it would be the right place to do something like that. I’m not sure.”

The Mortdecai actress famously used the phrase “conscious uncoupling” when she announced her split from Coldplay frontman Chris Martin in March 2014 on her lifestyle site. They continue to coparent their daughter Apple, 12, and son Moses, 10.

“At that time, Goop wasn’t the size that it is now, there were a lot less people. It was a very, very personal project for a long time and I wrote in the first person all the time, so it wasn’t like a break. Now if you read the content, it is not in the first person anymore. But at the time, it was still very small and very personal,” she further explained Tuesday. “It was such a difficult time in my life and I was trying so hard to protect my children and my family, Chris included. We were both fragile. It was really tough. To me, it felt like this is a quiet way to do this and it is contained.”

Paltrow later explained what “conscious uncoupling” actually means with the help of Dr. Habib Sadeghi and Dr. Sherry Sami.

“[It’s] the ability to understand that every irritation and argument [within a marriage] was a signal to look inside ourselves and identify a negative internal object that needed healing,” they wrote via Goop. “From this perspective, there are no bad guys, just two people … it’s about people as individuals, not just the relationship.”

Paltrow and Martin, 39, have both moved on since ending their 10-year marriage. (The pair reached a divorce settlement this past May.) Paltrow has been dating Glee and Scream Queens producer Brad Falchuk since August 2014. Martin romanced Jennifer Lawrence in 2015 and is currently dating actress Annabelle Wallis.
