Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin aren't the only ones having a rough time this week. The Oscar winner's famous mother, actress Blythe Danner, is very emotional about the couple's separation, a source tells Us Weekly.
"[She's] really upset. She loves Chris," the insider tells Us. "She begged Gwyneth not to end it, that he's a good man. But Gwyneth had to do what she felt was best."
"They really tried to make it work," the source adds. "You could tell something was wrong, though, over the last few months. You could see a sadness in each of their eyes."
Danner, 71, was married to Paltrow's dad, Bruce, for 33 years until his death in 2002. Back in June 2013, Paltrow, 41, opened up about a discussion she once had with her father about marriage. "I asked my dad once, 'How did you and Mom stay married for 33 years?' And he said, 'Well, we never wanted to get divorced at the same time,'" the Iron Man star said in Glamour U.K.
"I think that's what happens," she added. "When two people throw in the towel at the same time, then you break up, but if one person's saying, 'Come on, we can do this,' you carry on."
As previously reported, Paltrow and the 37-year-old Coldplay frontman — parents to daughter Apple, 9, and son Moses, 7 — are currently in the Bahamas amid the breakup news. Although the pair are showing a united front for their children, there is a bit of "tension" an insider told Us.
"There are no signs of any PDA , holding hands, or kissing on the beach. There was definitely a noticeably intimate distance," the source added. However, the kids appear to be "happy and playful."
