Hilary Duff Dodges Question About Ex-Boyfriend Aaron Carter, Gives Advice to Younger Self

At the iHeartRadio Music Awards on May 1, Hilary Duff dodged a question about ex-boyfriend Aaron Carter, who has been speaking out about wanting her back 10 years after their split

Hilary Duff‘s lips are sealed when it comes to ex-boyfriend Aaron Carter. While he’s been going on and on about how much he regrets his split from the Lizzie McGuire alum, she has yet to respond to his proclamations of love — and it sounds like she has no plans to do so anytime soon.

Asked about Carter’s recent romantic revelations while attending the iHeartRadio Music Awards at L.A.’s Shrine Auditorium on May 1, the newly separated singer-actress replied, “I don’t have an answer to that.” (She and the former teen idol dated for three years before breaking up in 2003 amid rumors that he cheated on her with fellow Disney princess Lindsay Lohan.)

Fortunately, Carter isn’t looking for answer. “[My tweets weren’t] meant for the media or anybody like that — I didn’t think about it, really,” he told Entertainment Tonight last month. “I wasn’t really looking for [a response] either. I’m sure she got the message.”

In fact, a lot of people got the message, since Carter, 26, tweeted it out to his 421,000 followers. “Don’t be that stupid douche that loses the love of your life forever…Like me…” he wrote on March 5, along with a recent photo of his ex-love. “I’ll spend the rest of my life trying to better myself to get back to her. I don’t care what ANY of you think.”

He later clarified his remarks to Entertainment Tonight, saying he “absolutely” still loves Duff, who separated from husband Mike Comrie earlier this year and has a son, Luca, 2.

“I don’t know who she is today, she doesn’t know who I am today,” he admitted, “but I would sweep her off her feet if I ever got a chance to again and fix what I did wrong.”

Duff would do a few things in her life differently, too — namely, give herself a break. Asked at iHeartRadio what advice she would give her younger self, the star thought about it for a minute and then said, “We all put so much pressure on ourselves when we are younger, and everything seems like the biggest deal in the world.”

She continued: “But no matter what happens, everything is going to keep going, and you’re going to make it through. Hold your shoulders back and hold your head up high, and be confident — because at the end of the day, you’re gonna feel good with that.”
