Bad case of stage fright! Kate Gosselin took to Twitter after her awkward interview on the TODAY show Thursday, Jan. 16, to explain why her 13-year-old twins, Mady and Cara, refused to speak on the show.
"Thanks to @TODAYshow for having Cara, Mady and me on the show today!" the 38-year-old mother of eight tweeted. "1st live interview can render even the gabbiest girls speechless." She added: "I'm proud of them, taking this opp! They were so excited but caught off guard by live tv!"
One commenter criticized Gosselin's tweet, however, writing, "Sad that you're in damage control already." The former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star replied, "No damage done. They wanted to do interview with me, I said 'go for it' #morelifeopportunites #proudmomnomatterwhat."
Another commenter wrote Gosselin: "You could tell they were scared of saying the wrong thing, that's why they kept looking at you!"
"There were no right or wrong answers," Gosselin responded. "They just had a case of 'stage fright' #notactors."
During their appearance on TODAY, Mady and Cara went completely silent when co-anchor Savannah Guthrie tried to ask the girls questions about their lives after appearing on a reality show.
"Um. . . " Mady said, clamming up.
"Mady, your words," Gosselin scolded her daughter. "It's your chance. Spit it out."
Eventually, the teenager managed to answer a few of Guthrie's questions while sister Cara stayed mostly silent. The girls both gave the journalist a resounding "yes," however, when asked if they would like to appear on a reality TV show again.
